1. Further onions recalled in effort to control outbreak
19.08.2020. USA. Salmonella
HelloFresh is recalling onions due to the potential presence of Salmonella. This outbreak has seen 869 people infected across 47 states. Hundreds of people have also been infected in Canada.

2. "Critical breakthrough" with ASF virus diagnosis tool: USDA ARS

Scientists have identified a new method to isolate and detect the presence of live African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV) that promises to replace primary swine macrophage methods.

3. Outbreak investigation finds different strains of Salmonella in chicken nuggets

While testing chicken nuggets as part of an outbreak investigation of Salmonella Enteritidis, a different strain of Salmonella was found; Salmonella Infantis.

4. Peaches recalled as implicated in Salmonella outbreak

The CDC and FDA are investigating a multi-state outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis infections linked to consumption of peaches, with 68 reported cases in 9 states.

5. PRRS virus found in illegally imported pigs

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) has been diagnosed in illegally imported pigs in the state of Washington.

6. Farmer found guilty of contaminating baby food with metal

A man has been found guilty of blackmail and contaminating goods for putting shards of metal in baby food jars in the United Kingdom.

7. PHE dropped and England to get new health agency

Public Health England has been scrapped; with the announcement of a new agency called National Institute for Health Protection (NIHP), which will focus on controlling infectious disease, pandemics and health protection.

8. New sampling procedures used in US Cyclospora outbreak investigation
17.08.2020. USA. Cyclospora
A total of 690 Cyclospora cayetanensis illness cases have been reported across 13 states, as of 14 August 2020.
