5. Food Standards Scotland explains expiry dates in Christmas food safety campaign

This year’s notice is reminding consumers to pay attention to food labelling and to take care in the kitchen and stick to good food safety practices. The latest Food Standards Scotland (FSS) food safety tracker in June found that one in three people in the country don’t know the “use by” date is the best indicator to determine that food is safe.

6. Campylobacter outbreak over; 100s sickened in Sweden

An investigation into a spike in Campylobacter infections has been closed by public health officials in Sweden. A rise in Camplyobacter infections was linked to broilers since August.

7. Raw vegetables cause of Norovirus outbreak in Belgian school

Over 150 students and staff at a school in Belgium became ill during an outbreak of norovirus in early December. It was reported by The Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC) that it was caused by crudités, which are mixed raw vegetables
