Studies show that students that spend the summer away from books and learning opportunities, actually forget a significant amount of information that they gained over the school year. This "summer slump" can be combated by giving children high interest books and other learning materials to read as families rest. Even rereading beloved books like Harry Potter can help children keep their minds active. To help, we have set up our final scholastic book order for the year. If you order within the next week, you should receive your books before the school year ends. Sit down with your child, click on the link and find some books that he or she will enjoy. Like before, you can pay directly in the site by credit card and we will give your child the books when they arrive. Looking Forward, Robert S. Jackson, Director International Night Dear families, As we have informed you earlier, on May 25th we will celebrate International Night here at TIS. This is a wonderful event to be with family and friends and discover more about our diverse cultures. The weather looks promising and we are hoping to be able to hold the event at the soccer field. In case of rain we will have it at the gym instead. The decision will be taken on Friday morning and we will inform you for any possible changes. This is the schedule: 15:15 – 18:00 Set up the tables and displays 18:15 - Official opening 18:30-20:00 Tables open 20:30 – Clean up but stay as late as you want! Please feel free to contact eva-dauti@alb.qsi.org for any questions you might have.
Dear parents, In the last two weeks we have had some children with Hand- Foot and Mouth Disease in preschool. We have disinfected preschool classrooms and pay attention to do deep cleaning every day. Teachers are asked to reminde their children to wash hands often during the day. We would like to inform you about this medical issue, since we have heard that this viral situation is going around in other schools as well. We were also told for few cases with Coxsackieviruses ( not in our school ) among young children. Coxsackieviruses can cause HFM disease among other infections. Please check your children at home for fever (especially if they look tired) or for red spots on the skin around the face and body. It is very important to remind them to wash hands often. Here is a site where you can find some more information about HFM disease. We reviewed some sample applications and assessed which applicants would likely get admitted to a selective university based on their grades, test scores, recommendations, resumes, interviews, and other factors. This exercise illuminated what the universities are looking for and enhanced our understanding of the admission process. Baking time The six year old class took a field trip to Interspar market on May 10 for our "Marketplace" unit. Prior to our trip, students estimated the cost of ingredients needed to create and bake a class cake. At Interspar, students went around and found the ingredients and the prices of each item. Friday, May 11, we followed a recipe and created a cake to enjoy together. It was delicious. Earth and Nature The students in Albanian Language have been studying elements of earth and nature. They worked hard making the posters related to the outcome. It's a great pleasure to see them work so hard and learn so well. Their willingness to do and learn new things is amazing.
