Most Older Adults Consider Sex to Be Important

In a recent poll of older adults, about 75% of respondents deemed sex to be important for romantic relationships.

The National Poll on Healthy Aging included 1,002 men and women aged 65 to 80 living in the United States.

Seventy-two percent of the participants were in romantic relationships, and 40% reported being sexually active.

While 65% of all respondents said they were interested in sex, the percentages of those who were "extremely or very interested" was quite different for men and women. Half the men expressed this level of interest, but only 12% of the women did.

The survey also addressed overall sexual satisfaction, the use of medications and supplements for sexual problems, and conversations about sex in medical and non-medical contexts.
