Newsletter | July 2018As we draw another year to a close, we hope that you enjoy sharing the Celebration of Learning booklets with your child, they give a glimpse of the progress your child has made and I am sure you will agree they show how happy and engaged our young people have been in some exciting learning experiences. As you know it has been a busy year, there is a lot of work going on across the two sites over the summer so we are excited to be moving forward. We know the changes will significantly impact positively on the children as we continue the journey towards providing outstanding education. We look forward to welcoming you into school in September once the children have settled so that you are able to see the school in action. We hope that you enjoy your summer break, school opens to pupils on Tuesday 4th September 2018. Lisa Leonard | Headteacher Volunteering ProgrammePost 16 have been working hard on a volunteering programme and have built the most amazing ''Dead Hedge''. They have also had a wonderful time lighting fires and having a 'cook out', as well as conducting team challenges and practicing their climbing skills on a rolling rock wall. Yogi the School DogWe had lots of very exciting mornings in Little Explorers. Yogi came to visit us every week allowing the children to familiarise themselves with him. This gave the children the opportunity to feed Yogi and stroke him. We spoke about how he feels, what colour he is and they were also counting how many legs and ears he has. Most of our children enjoyed the visit, some were a little bit more reluctant to join in. However, all children stayed in the same room for the session. We look forward to more visits from Yogi in the Autumn term. Here are a few pictures of Yogi with the pupils. Enjoying the OutdoorsStudents from Ocean Class have been visiting Caldecotte Lake in Milton Keynes where they have been having a great time accessing rock climbing, archery, fencing, water zorbing, paddle boarding and sailing. HorticultureThis term has been busy for our horticulture classes. Simmonds Class and Staff Team have transformed the café courtyard through Horticulture lessons. The Café is now using produce planted and grown in the Café courtyard garden. Our Leeks have been harvested and we had a bumper crop!!!! Carrots, onions and garlic have all been harvested from the school allotment. Silsoe has been hard work. The hard work of all the Post 16 students has paid off. Our allotment looks beautiful. Look out for all the harvest up dates in the Autumn term. Beethoven Horticulture Team enjoying a well deserved rest at Poplars Garden Centre Café. Sports WeekThe Primary site enjoyed an action-packed sports week in June. We saw lots of our children show real determination and there was a lot of laughter. Sad to Say GoodbyeSadly we have a number of staff leaving us at the end of this term, we say goodbye and thank you to: Jill Foskett, Maria Seager, Gina Shaw, Patriciah Kariuki, Anne-Marie Hudson, Joanna Forster. We wish them every success in their new adventures.
I’m one of the Parent Governors and my daughter is in Little Explorers, currently on the Primary Site. In addition to being a mum, my career has involved working with children. I’ve recently become the Link Governor working with Sarah Foster, leading on Emotional Health and Wellbeing, Pupil Voice and Parental Engagement. I’m looking forward to working with the school on developing these areas and I really hope to meet lots more parents at school events. DARE TO BE DIFFERENT |
