From the editors...

The student newsletter is produced every fortnight by the Internal Communications team so we can share news, announcements, selected events and some requests for help. 

If you wish to communicate around the University, the newsletter is just one way to do that. Please check our Methods of Internal Communication webpage, and feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

The next newsletter will distributed on Wednesday 14 December - the deadline is 4pm on Friday 9 December.

Sick of missing your Amazon deliveries?

There's a new Amazon Locker on city campus! Located at Belmont Tower residences (under the concrete arches), you can pick up your Amazon packages 24 hours a day. All you need to do is select Amazon pick up location 'Franco' and wait for your delivery! Find out more at amazon.co.uk/locker.

50th anniversary calendars for sale

The University has produced a calendar to celebrate 50 years of independence, with a selection of images from the museum collections and archives. The calendars cost £5 (including postage) and are available from the Buy At store.

University Strategy to 2022

The University is currently developing its next five year strategy - keep a look out next semester for ways you can have your say and make your voice heard!

Learn a language in 2017

Why not learn a foreign language next year? The University's language courses start again week beginning Monday 16 January 2017. Choose from Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Turkish.

The post intermediate English language class for mixed levels will commence on Thursday 19 January for 10 weeks, and the short beginners classes will commence week beginning Monday 6 February 2017.

Enquiry Centre closure (Wed 7 Dec)

The Enquiry Centre will be closed on Wedneday 7 December from 9-10.30am for staff training. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Students celebrate Winter Graduation 2016

Winter Graduation was a huge success, with almost 2,000 students graduating over two days, and 1,000 students attending the ceremonies. Alongside our new graduates, three honorary gradudates - and Dundee alumni - were also celebrated.

Students and staff put through their paces by army reserve

More than 300 student nurses have been working hard to develop their team-working, leadership skills and physical and emotional resilience - all under the supervision of some of Scotland’s army reservists.

St Andrew's Day (Wed 30 Nov)

Celebrate St Andrews Day!

There's lots happening for St Andrews Day this year - here are a few highlights of what's on.

Students are paying tribute to the patron saint of Scotland with the release of their documentary on ‘The Siege of Dundee’ at 5pm tonight. Find out more

Scotland's Winter Festivals include St Andrew's Day, helping to celebrate Scotland's rich culture and heritage. Find out more about the Scottish Winter Festival.

Be sure not to miss the chance to step out to the Gay Gordons, Strip the Willow and the Dashing White Sergeant at the St Andrew's ceilidh at 9pm at DUSA. Find out more.

Dundee Arts Cafe - Minecraft: A Shift in Learning (Tue 6 Dec)

Minecraft is fast becoming one of the world’s most popular computer games, especially amongst children, allowing them to freely express, share and celebrate their inherent creativity.

Derek Robertson from the University, will explore the wondrous simplicity and complexity of Minecraft, and discuss the challenges of introducing games into the formal world of the classroom.

The event is free and non-bookable. Places are limited - arrive early to the McManus to avoid disappointment. Doors open at 5pm.

Assessment and Feedback – what’s new?

CASTLE’s lunchtime InspirED Seminar Series for 2017 will have the perennially popular theme of Assessment & Feedback.

On Wednesday 18 January, the first speaker will be Dr David Walker, known to many of you as former Senior Learning Technologist here at the University and now Head of Technology Enhanced Learning at the University of Sussex. David will discuss 'Technology, Assessment and the Language of Change'.

A mix of external and internal presenters will speak for the Series and all academic staff and PG students are welcome.

Careers Service December Opening Hours

The Careers Service will be closed on Tuesday 13 December 2016 for staff training, and will be open until Friday 23 December for booked appointments.

Quick Queries will run from Monday 19 to Thursday 22 December from 11am - 1pm at the Careers Service, 1 Airlie Place.

Saltire Coaching Session (Speed Interviews)

Carnegie Trust Vacation Scholarships for Undergraduates

The Vacation Scholarship Scheme is intended for Scottish students undertaking a degree course at a Scottish university, who have shown exceptional merit, and who would like to devote some portion of the long vacation (typically from May onwards) to undertake a programme of independent research of direct benefit to their academic work.

Active lifestyle survey - help Dundee to win!

ISE is supporting a national survey that aims to gain an insight in to the link between the student experience and physical activity.

Scottish Student Sport (SSS) is running the survey as a competition between Institutions and Dundee is in second place behind local rivals St Andrews.

The online survey takes just five minutes to complete - but it closes today! Hurry for your chance to beat St Andrews and win a GPS watch worth £250.00.

Market Research students surveys on behalf of DUSA

Fourth year marketing students are again undertaking market research on behalf of DUSA and are looking for participants for various surveys. 

Characteristics of students

Catharine, Kirsty, Blair and Ali are giving you the chance to win £100 Amazon vouchers by completing their survey, which explores the characteristics of students. Please ensure you enter your email address to be eligible to win - the winner will be chosen at random once the survey has closed.
