Hello from Grandwood Park Park District. The year has been a real roller coaster, to say the least. We have all been impacted by the novel corona virus. We have been doing our best to “flatten the curve”, and waiting to hear when this nightmare will be over! A flattened curve does not end the spread of this horrific virus, it spreads it out allowing our healthcare system to keep up with new cases. Based on CDC information, COVID-19 will be with us for some time. Unfortunately, Illinois is sill considered to be a hot spot. The Lake County Health
Department is a reliable source to track updates on the virus as is the State of Illinois web site. This “new normal” requires social distancing and wearing a face mask. Please remember the mask are to protect others, as we never know if we could be spreading the virus. As we hear more from the Governor, we will be posting updates that impact GPPD facilities and programs. Until then, the parks and grounds are there for you to take a walk, and enjoy spring weather, but please practice social distancing if you encounter others.
No large group gatherings or sports are allowed at this time. We, at the Grandwood Park Park District, hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.

Our school year has come to a close much sooner than we anticipated, and in a way none of us could have imagined. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we were not able to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of the children in our Explorer's class with our traditional graduation ceremony. Mrs. Magnuson and Mrs. Osborne came up with a unique way to present these students with a special gift to commemorate their graduation. Mrs. Osborne made the cookies pictured below for each of the graduates. They practiced social distancing by placing the goodies between the front doors of the community center, and had the children come one at a time to pick up their goodies and say good-bye to their teachers through the glass. Congratulations to our Graduation Class of 2020!!!

Little Learners Preschool Registration
2020-2021 School YearWe will continue to accept registrations for our upcoming school year. If you need a registration packet, you may print all the paperwork from our website, or contact us by email with your request and your mailing address, and we will mail a packet to your home. You need to complete the application and return it to us with the registration fee by mail (we will provide a stamped, self addressed envelope with your packet). We do not know what to
expect for the upcoming school year because of COVID-19. Will we be able to open our doors as usual? Will we have smaller classes? Could we possibly be back to normal by then? Probably not. But we don't know what the school year will look like. We will keep the families of our registered students updated as we learn the recommendations of federal, state, and local officials. We do not know if we will be holding another Open House for the 2020-2021 school year. If we are able to hold one, we will announce the date on our website. The dates of our Parent Orientation, Meet & Greet for the
children, and start date for the school year may change. New dates will be communicated to registered families once we have the information. If you have any questions, please contact us by email, or by leaving a message on our office phone at 847-356-0008. Our staff is currently working from home, however, emails and phone messages are checked daily.

PLEASE PICK-UP AFTER
YOUR DOGS!We understand many people are getting out and walking while the stay-at-home order is in place, however, we have been receiving complaints from residents that some people are not picking up after their dogs in the parks. Please help us keep the parks a clean environment for everyone to enjoy, and pick-up after your pets when you walk them. Thank you!

Civic Association 2020 EventsDue to the COVID-19 crisis, the Civic Association has decided to reschedule all events planned thru the end of the year. It is very difficult to plan an event when you don't know if you will be able to hold it or not. This includes: Shires Shout-Out, Music by the Lake dates, and Oktoberfest. Keep your eyes on the website for new dates as they are determined.
