First designed in 1948 by celebrated designer Poul Cadovius, the Royal was one of the world’s first wall-hung furniture systems. At the time, the idea of furniture being on walls rather than just limited to the floor was novel and Poul Cadovius was leading the charge.

As pragmatic as he was creative, he stated, “Most of us live on the bottom of a cube. If we put the walls even with the floor, we get a lot of space to live on!” With his minimalist aesthetic, the Royal System went on to prove popular, being manufactured in over 30 countries...TO SEE MORE IMAGES CLICK HERE... 

In 2010 our friends at Copenhagen based dk3 – a company known for their dedication to fine carpentry traditions – contacted Poul Cadovius (then 98) with the aim of re-launching this once revolutionary shelving.
