The provincial government worked with the Calgary Chamber to debut  a new small business strategy that includes online tools for small business owners during Small Business Week Calgary. Calling small business the “lifeblood” of our economy, Premier Prentice said the site was created after hearing a need for easier access to information from operators province-wide.

Half a million Canadians miss work every day due to mental health problems or illness. This impacts business in a massive way, causing losses of $6.4 billion in 2011 alone.

Earlier this month, the Chamber released Mental health in the workplace, a comprehensive report that makes the case for mental health initiatives and also serves as a resource for employers and employees.

The Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) remains a point of concern for Chamber members. Even with proposed regulatory changes from Minister Jason Kenney, the file still needs more reform to better serve the needs of the business community.

The Calgary Chamber submitted a letter on behalf of our members, outlining some desired changes to the TFWP, to ensure the program meets the needs of Calgary business.

The Calgary Chamber is honoured to join the Business School Research Network as its first, and only, non-academic partner as a way to bring real-time business concepts to post-secondary institutions.

The network is coalition of educators from Canada’s top business schools that have come together to develop a more rigorous method of evaluating the impact of business schools on real businesses.
