Business South Bank (BSB)'s 2016 Showcase event was our biggest and best yet – and we couldn't have done it without our extremely creative stallholders and the support of those who attended!!

New State Librarian Appointed

The State Library of Queensland has announced the appointment of the new State Librarian and CEO, Ms Vicki McDonald.

Ms McDonald is an experienced senior executive with extensive experience in the library sector, state and local governments and tertiary education.

Her appointment as State Librarian and CEO of State Library of Queensland renews a relationship that started in 2001, when she was seconded from Brisbane City Council to SLQ as Acting Director Policy Development, progressing to the position of Director Client Services and Collections from 2002 to 2009.

Ms McDonald enjoyed her time at SLQ and feels both respect for and an affinity with the organisation, so she is excited by this opportunity to lead this dynamic institution.

New Performing Arts Venue Business Case

The Queensland Government, through Arts Queensland, is developing a business case to explore a new 1500 seat performing arts venue in Brisbane.

Rydges South Bank Unveils Finale to $30million Redesign
20th Anniversary Marks Milestone

Turning 20 years old on June 20, BSB member Rydges South Bank has just become the most modern hotel in the city.

As the tourism spotlight continues to shine on Brisbane, the unveiling of Rydges South Bank’s $15million new room collection is perfectly timed as the finale to a $30million three year redesign.

Under the direction of General Manager Callum Kennedy, the hotel is about to complete one of the country’s largest all-room redesign and refurbishment projects which propels it onto the world stage, befitting for its position as room-keeper in the most dynamic and celebrated part of Brisbane – South Bank.

Queensland Library Foundation presents 'Crowd Giving'

BSB member Queensland Library Foundation invites you and a guest to participate in Crowd Giving, a special fundraising event at the State Library of Queensland.

A $100 donation to the Queensland Library Foundation secures your place at Crowd Giving, an evening of fun and philanthropy in an atmosphere of friendly competition!

Take part as three State Library of Queensland project managers pitch their social-impact projects and field questions from a renowned Queensland philanthropist and audience members. Have your say, and help choose the project that receives the total prize pool of $10,000.

QPAC's Out of the Box Festival

From 21-28 June, South Bank will come alive with Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC)'s biennial Out of the Box festival for children 8 years and under.

The festival takes pride in its history as a national leader in programming for young children, nurturing children's creativity and imagination.

Out of the Box is 8 days of cultural activity crafted to celebrate and support learning, play, curiosity and discovery for children and their families as they learn and grow together. Out of the Box acknowledges and celebrates the value and importance of the arts in education and life-learning.

This year the program explores the expertise of children, and the concept that every child is a valuable, thoughtful, and insightful member of society who make meaningful contributions to civic life. The program also celebrates children’s connection and engagement with Indigenous and Asian cultures, with a particular focus on Indian cultures, customs and art forms.

Out of the Box takes place across the Cultural Precinct, from its hub at QPAC to the State Library of Queensland, Queensland Museum and Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA).
