MODERN ORIGINALS With every visit we take to the Fredericia showroom in the heart of Copenhagen, we become more and more enamoured with this great brand and the design values it continues to uphold. The depth of the Fredericia range has the ability to grow, evolve and surprise whilst maintaining the essence and the spirit of the designers it represents. Take Borge Mogensen for example, designer of the Hunting Chair (new to our showroom floors), who’s personality contrasted a natural artistic temperament with lifelong sets of self-imposed 'design dogmas' – leading him to break formal rules without abandoning his own original intents. Since 1911 the pieces manufactured by Fredericia have been modern classics and remain so whether designed 60 or 3 years ago. PON TABLE by JASPER MORRISON, AVAILABLE IN WHITE OILED OAK (ABOVE) OR SMOKED OAK (BELOW). JASPER MORRISON ON BORGE MOGENSEN: "As a design student, I knew about Jacobsen, Wegner, Panton and some others, but not Mogensen. It was not until relatively recently that I found out he designed so many of the classic Danish furniture pieces that I admired…. Mogensen designs are intentionally discrete… although some of his designs are quite radical. I believe that's the clue to understanding and appreciating the quality of his design. It's not so much about the chair or the table as objects, though they are certainly beautiful, but about the effect they will have on their environment. You need only look at photos of Mogensen's own home to appreciate how skilful he was at tuning the architecture and interior design to amplify the effect of his designs." HUNTING CHAIR by BORGE MOGENSEN Designed for the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild’s exhibition of 1950 themed “The Hunting Lodge” Mogensen created one of his more extraordinary pieces of furniture. Like several of his classics, the idea was conceived late at night in the company of good friends – and in this case on a matchbox. SPINE DAYBED by SPACE COPENHAGEN Spine Daybed pays respect to the proud upholstery traditions on which Fredericia built its name, while providing a dash of modernity in its own succinct and simple way. The head cushion is secured with a leather strap. LARGE PON COFFEE TABLE by JASPER MORRISON Pon is stable, versatile and can be used as either stand-alone furniture or combined in different heights. The new large version has just arrived in our showrooms and with a table top diameter of 900mm it is a distinct yet unpresuming sculpture in any room designed by the creator of the "Supernormal" design movement. BARBRY by AURÉLIEN BARBRY “Design is an exercise where you take the simplest things in your daily life and ask yourself how they could be done differently.” Barbry is simple. Made of lacquered iron and a wood seat, with footrests in three levels, Barbry Stool invites users of different heights. SWOON designed by SPACE COPENHAGEN with fabrics handpicked by ARENT&PYKE The sensitivity for colour and textiles that Sarah Jane and Juliette of Sydney based interior design firm Arent&Pyke apply to projects is something we have long admired. It made perfect sense that on a chance a visit to the Fredericia showroom, together with Great Dane, the duo hand-picked two colourways for the Swoon Chair. We're excited to announce both their curated Swoon creations (upholstered in Patricia Urquiola x Raf Simons Kvadrat fabrics) have just arrived on our shores and are now on display in both our Sydney and Melbourne Showrooms. |
