ECONOMIC IMPACT PAYMENTS - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW PER THE IRS

For your convenience, here are several links from the IRS to help you understand further the Economic Impact Payments to ensure that every U.S. Person receive their aid. Click on the title to reach the IRS webpage.

  • See if you are eligible for an Economic Impact Payment

  • Non-Filers: Enter Your Payment Info Here -

    • (not required to file, social security payments recipients, etc.). If you are NOT required to file a tax return, the IRS will set up a web-based portal to sign into to receive a stimulus check. The main requirement is to have a U.S. social security.

  • Filers: Get Your Payment (Use the "Get My Payment" application) -

    • (coming mid-April) the IRS will establish a site for you to input your bank information so that you can receive the funds directly into your U.S. bank account, especially if you have not provided it to them in the past. If you do not have a U.S. bank account, they will mail you a check. However, if you do not have a U.S. bank account and you live abroad, you can create one here via the Americans Citizens Abroad. The account will be at the State Department Credit Union.

  • If you moved since you last filed, let the IRS know your new mailing address.

Filing season 2020: Covid-19 updates

Stimulus payments (CARES Act)

  • Most people do not have to take any action to get a payment. The IRS will use 2019 tax return information, or 2018 information if 2019 is not yet available.
  • Taxpayers who are not required to file (NRTF) will be able to file a “simple” return to get a payment. Click here. 
  • The IRS intends to develop a web-based portal for taxpayers to provide their banking information if they did not provide it on their tax return and wish to do so now. Otherwise, the IRS will mail the payment to the taxpayer’s address of record.
