FairCoin launches first co-op blockchain

FairCoin has launched the world's first "co-operative" blockchain. 

Lead developer Thomas König told Co-operative News that 'a profound assumption of the new system is that co-operation is more efficient than competition.'

The FairCoin cryptocurrency has been transferred to the co-operative blockchain.

SILC shows the way forward for NDIS

Supporting Independent Living Co-operative (SILC)

The Supporting Independent Living Co-operative (SILC) is now a registered NDIS provider in New South Wales.

The registration is a significant milestone for SILC, which will now be able to provide specialist NDIS supports to its members, for example exploring housing options, preparing rosters and employment of staff in a family-governed home.

SILC CEO Jo Battersby said “This is a great step for our members and for the development of the NDIS as a whole. As far as I know, we are the first provider to achieve registration that is owned and controlled by people with disability and their families.”

Upgraded RACQ LifeFlight heli for Mount Isa region

RACQ LifeFlight heli

A new and improved LifeFlight helicopter has made the 1600km journey from Bundaberg to Mount Isa.

The upgraded helicopter has increased speed and range, increased night capability and can carry two patients (previously only one). 

LifeFlight's naming right's sponsor RACQ, Queensland's motorist mutual, has been a dedicated supporter of the rescue service for more than 20 years.

WOCCU Conference held in Vienna

World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) annual conference in Vienna

The World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) has held its annual conference in Vienna from 23-26 July

Over 1800 representatives from 58 countries were in attendance, including representatives of BCCM members Bank Australia, Beyond Bank, CUA, COBA, Defence Bank, Qudos Bank and Teachers Mutual Bank. 

Key topics discussed at the conference were the millenial generation, digital trends and cybesecurity
