We have relaunched our news letter with a new name! Bringing you the first edition of Fred's Life. So here is a special nod to Fred. Meet Fred! Fred, aka Sir Fredrick Peel, had a fairly prominent childhood. His dad was rather busy being Prime Minister and back then the family home, Drayton Manor, was lacking in exotic animals and theme park rides. So Fred busied himself by dreaming up a plan for building his own country pad. Eventually in 1855 it all happened and the doors of Hampton Manor opened. Soon enough he got itchy feet lazing around his manor and throwing serious parties. During his time in government he had spent many a cabinet meeting staring out the window at Big Ben dreaming about building his own tower, and then, he did! In 1975 he commissioned Dent, the clock makers, to manufacture the daddy of all watches and he set about building a tower to house it. |
Having relandscaped the grounds again and again, he was looking for a jewel in his crown and more importantly he wanted some fresh local produce for his Chef to cook up a storm. He laid his last brick at the Manor in 1892 when he completed the beautiful walled garden that was designed by the first president of the Landscape Institute, Thomas Mawson. When Sir Fredrick Peel passed away, so did the dream he had realised at Hampton Manor. It had taken a life time's work and it all went to pot. By the war years the house was nearly derelict and only thanks to the Jacob's family was the Manor saved. Today the story is back alive and we here to tell it! Even better still you are invited to join it. We'll keep you posted with ways to enjoy the Manor and be part of a rekindled dream. This year our biggest project is to harvest our first produce from the Walled Garden once again and we hope you'll be here to taste it. |

Fred Had StyleThis is one of the few portraits we have of Sir Fred. Naively we thought the skinny trousers and fitted jacket suggested an early Ted Baker but others quickly pointed out that Ted Founder, Ray Kelvin was only born in 1955 so we were at least 60 years off the mark. Clement's & Church offer tailored suits with this kind of swagger and are regular attenders of our Wedding Fayre. The next one is Sunday February 22nd, so if you haven't figured how to stand out at your wedding yet, pop this date in your diary. |
We're cooking on gas! What do we do with these old sayings!!! Of course we're not cooking on gas! It is the 21st century and more is being done to preserve the planet than Fred could ever had dreamed of. Our Chef's cook on induction and eco eletric solid tops that vastly reduce energy loss. What is even more exciting though is we've just installed a new 199KW Hargassner Boiler thanks to our friend Dave at Arrow Heating. The boiler supplies all our heating and hot water. When we opened six years ago we had a wood chip boiler and it was a challenge! Producing woodchip is tough, so we reverted to chucking logs into the incinerator and our singed eye brows were the proof. We're delighted that the technology has come on and today a text message tells our supplier when the wood pellets need topping up and we go blissfully unaware of the workings behind the scenes. The government are heavily incentivising the installation of both large domestic and commerical projects with a 20 year tariff paid to those that proceed with installing biomass solutions.
