Letter from the President, Historical Society
One of the roles of the Historical Society is to generate interest in the missional story of the Uniting Church in SA. The by-laws indicate that congregations and agencies of the church may be members of the Society. The society now invites congregations and church councils to become members.

Event highlight
The Circle of Friends (Circle of Hope) is holding a fundraising dinner for asylum seekers on Friday, October 22nd. Funds raised will help with rent and other living costs. They currently support 10 asylum seekers who are denied income support. Venue: Hope’s Café, Clayton Wesley Church.

Lenswood Uniting hero remembered
Relatives of World War II hero, Hartley Graham Norton, honoured his memory at a special outreach service held at Lenswood Uniting Church on Sunday 3rd October. The service highlighted the centenary year of the birth of Pilot Officer Norton, and the meeting coincided exactly with the anniversary of his death.

SA Uniting Churches join in the Faiths 4 Climate Justice Global Day of Action
On October 17, a number of SA Uniting Churches are joining in with other Christians and faiths from all around the globe calling for climate justice and care for God’s creation by ringing bells, singing, and praying. There are now more than 110 places of worship and faith communities calling for much stronger action.

We also pray for healing in a troubled world.

Reflection
Paul uses several different words for love, but for the Great Love we fall into, the Great Self with the big S, the God Self, he uses the word ‘agape.’ We translate it as unconditional love or divine love. It’s a love we receive as a gift. We do not manufacture it by will-power. It’s a love we can only participate in. It’s a life bigger than our own.
