Click here Council Budget 2019-20A low rate rise and a $164.7 million Capital Works program are the highlights of the $316 million balanced Budget for 2019-20 brought down by Cairns Regional Council. Across the next 12 months, Council will spend $380 million through materials and services associated with delivering capital works, maintenance, renewals and other services. As of July 1, the Queensland Government introduced a levy on waste going to landfill starting at $75 per tonne and more for regulated wastes. Businesses can access free onsite coaching for waste, energy and water efficiency through the fully subsidised CCIQ Ecobiz program. More tips can be found at Business Recycling which lists recycling options for around 90 different materials. Further information on the waste levy can be found on the QLD Government website. The levy does not apply to kerbside (wheelie bin) or self-hauled residential waste. Is there a single-use plastic your business could #choosetorefuse? With 120million participants around the world, Plastic Free July is the time to give it a try. Consider holding an avoidance challenge in your workplace, making a small change to your procurement or supporting customers with alternatives. Small Business Disaster Recovery GrantsSmall Business Disaster Recovery Grants provide assistance to small businesses severely impacted by the North and Far North Queensland monsoonal trough to engage high-level expertise to help them recover and rebuild business confidence. Regulation of advertising devicesCouncil has undertaken a review of its regulation of advertising devices and has proposed changes to its Local Laws and Planning Scheme. The changes provide clear requirements for the installation and operation of advertising devices, including digital signs.
