Did you miss the last issue of our Friday Flash...
March may signal the end of summer for Kiwis, but not so for the bowling community - the 'Summer of Bowls' continues on! In fact, the playing calendar for March and April has most weekends booked for competition - a bowler's dream!
Falls are a frequent cause of injuries in lawn bowls. Other common causes are over-exertion and being struck by a bowl. Yes, being struck by a bowl! The repetitive movement of bowling is also associated with an overuse injury. Other common injuries are strains, sprains and fractures.
Getting game-ready... Does the above sound familiar? Have you suffered a bowling injury? Injuries can happen to bowlers of any age at any time. With a busy playing schedule ahead, perhaps it's a good time to look at getting match-ready! We know keeping fit is important, so too is being prepared. Being game-ready not only builds your confidence but also helps to prevent injury.
Warm-up exercises are a great start to prepare you to play bowls. Here's a short video courtesy of Fit4Bowls demonstrating some stretching exercises.

No-player poaching allowedFor some 40+ years, Remuera Bowling Club has been hosting its annual College Day tournament. The one-day event being held on 18 April allows school pride (and some rivalries!) to roll out on the greens. Although there is a strict no-player poaching rule, the registrations are flowing in. So far registrations have come in from
King’s College, New Plymouth Boys, Manawatu College. Sides from St Cuthberts, Epsom Girls Grammar, Auckland Grammar, MAGS, Diocesan and Whangarei have also expressed interest.
With increased participation in Secondary Schools competitions, the club is hoping to see some of the younger alumni keen to join in!
