Finding Your Voice!

Welcome to Meee Moments #71 - Finding Your Voice

'Voice' is an interesting word, and one we’re exploring this month in all its forms. We’re joined by the fabulous Nikki Varley, aka Envy, who shares her powerful journey of discovering her voice through the work she loves.

So jump in, turn the volume up on your inner self, and give this edition your finest attention.

The image above: We recently ran a two-hour workshop at Wigan Youth Zone, where we encouraged attendees to take notes as part of the process. This snapshot from Steph’s brilliant notebook captures something special. Finding your voice isn’t just about making noise, it’s about tuning in to who you are. Through LEGO® and other magical creative tools, we spent the session exploring identity, confidence, and that quiet inner voice that’s waiting to be heard.

The Rapper In Me – Finding My Voice

By Nikki Varley aka Envy

I never planned to be a rapper.

I was just a teenager trying to make sense of a world that didn’t make room for girls like me, especially not girls with sharp tongues and no filter.

But one day, in the midst of some of the hardest days of my childhood, I listened to Nas, 'It Was Written', and everything shifted.

It was like someone kicked down a door I didn’t even know existed.

That night, I found the power of words and music. It was a necessary release. I didn’t connect to the exact experience of a New York rapper, but I felt the pain, the power, and I wanted to wield that.

Words poured out with weight.

My voice grew. Music became more than craft. It became church, therapy, rebellion. It held me when nothing else did. Gave me space to grieve losses I never named. Let me rage at systems I couldn’t fight with fists. It gave me power in a world that often made me feel small.

Now, every verse I write is a map back to myself.

And when I perform, I’m not just rapping, I’m reclaiming space.

So ask yourself: What do I want to say? And who am I when I say it?

“It’s like everyone tells a story about themselves inside their own head. Always. All the time. That story makes you what you are. We build ourselves out of that story”.
Patrick Rothfuss

Create A Better Story...

In Chapter 17 of Meee In A Minute, we explored how we are all storytellers, and the most powerful story we’ll ever tell is the one we tell ourselves.

We decide the characters in our lives. Are they heroes who’ve lifted us up, or villains who’ve held us back? We shape the plot, does it lead to growth and triumph, or dwell in disappointment?

In Courageous Dreaming, author Alberto Villoldo reminds us that since the days of Freud, we’ve become good at understanding our problems. But sometimes, too much analysing can hold us back. We rehash the pain, focus on the past, and forget to look forward.

Instead, what if we chose to write a new story, one where we’re not stuck in the past but moving toward a life that excites us?

Villoldo says it best: “We can either live the life we want, or live with the reasons why we can't.”

Take a Minute™️ and ask yourself: What story am I telling myself, and is it the one I want to live?

If not, change the chapter. Recast the characters. Rethink the ending.

You’re the author, and the pen is in your hand.

What Is Voice?...

What does it mean? And more importantly, what is yours?

Your voice isn’t just the sound you make; it’s the expression of your truth, your values, your purpose. It’s the way you show up in the world, authentic, real, and unapologetically you.

The great thing about truth is that the middle letter is 'u', and that’s no accident. Finding your voice means getting clear on what’s real for you, what matters, what drives you, and what you’re here to say or do.

As Viktor Frankl reminds us in his timeless book Man’s Search for Meaning, purpose is not just important, it’s essential. When we know why we’re here, our voice becomes stronger, clearer, more powerful.

And as the fabulous Nikki Varley said in our latest Just Meee podcast: “Don’t get furious, get curious”.

Curiosity leads us to self-discovery. And self-discovery leads us to our voice.

So Take a Minute™️ to ask:
🟡 What is my truth?
🟡 What is my voice saying?
🟡 And am I brave enough to share it?

Your voice matters, let it be heard.x

“Your life is your story. Write well. Edit often”.
