Therefore, we require sufficient notice of cancellation and non-attendance to allow others the opportunity to attend these workshops, or to allow the workshops to be cancelled if insufficient places are filled. Pure training for Research Information Management

Data Incidents - What Do I Do?

Do you know what to do if you think you have lost or misplaced information, sent information to the wrong person or been the victim of the theft of a device containing University data? This short session will cover the key issues of who to tell, how quickly to do that and what will happen next when data incidents take place. The University is an organisation that uses information in all its activities. An understanding of how to cope with a data incident is vital for us all.

Securing Your Data

This one hour session will aim to provide an overview of the governance framework for securing your data at the University, an explanation of how certain types of data must be secured and finally a set of ‘Best Practices’ which can be used for both University and personal devices and data. We will also demonstrate best practice for storing your data and collaborating with Box securely.

Financial Planning, Monitoring and Control of Non-Research Activities

This workshop is aimed at people who have some basic experience of budgeting or who have attended the introduction to budgets workshop. The workshop will cover the University’s planning, monitoring and control cycle and will work through several examples of non-research projects typical of those taking place across the institution. We will also explore budgeting within the context of the overall University financial position.

Accessibility

This workshop aims to raise the awareness of Accessibility, and why it is important to ensure that the University produces content that is for everyone. This is particularly important for anyone that interacts with students, but we also need to consider anyone else that may access our content such as staff and members of the public, as we have a legal responsibility to make sure that no-one is excluded.

This workshop will also provide you with the basic knowhow in which to create your own accessible content, and also provide a point of contact within the University if you have any queries relating to disability or accessibility.

Inclusive Cultures

The aim of the Inclusive Cultures Workshop is to improve awareness of the mechanisms and potential consequence of interactions at work, to improve self-awareness allowing reflection and change where the individual is able to identify gaps between their own previous behaviour and the expected standard they now understand.

Corporate Use of Social Media

Do you use social media as part of your job? Are you running a Facebook page or group, or a Twitter account, for your part of the University of Dundee? Or have you been asked to contribute posts to official University social media channels?

The University of Dundee social media policy states “If you are an approved spokesperson using social networking, appropriate training will be provided prior to you undertaking these activities.” This workshop is that “appropriate training”.

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES AND RESOURCES
Mental Health First Aid Course for Staff 18th & 25th May 2017

Mental Health First Aid, like any other type of first aid, is the help given to a person before appropriate help or treatment can be obtained. The course aims to give participants the understanding and knowledge of Mental Health problems that will help them deal with situations with confidence.

By the end of the 12 hour interactive course, participants will:

  • Have an understanding of mental health problems including depression, anxiety, panic attacks, psychosis, self-harm and suicide.
  • Know how to recognise if someone is experiencing a mental health problem
  • Have practised skills to help a person who is developing a difficulty with their mental health
  • Be able to support people to access appropriate help, including both professional support and evidence based self- help strategies.
  • Have explored the relationship between mental health and alcohol and drugs and other health related behaviours and lifestyle choices.
