Messy Church Willunga Award

Messy Church Willunga recently received an Intergenerational award as part of the 2021 Every Generation Onkaparinga Awards. Lois, Jenny, Jani, Charisse and Geoff attended the awards evening and are pictured with the certificate and beautiful big clock which has the message: Family is where our story begins.

Safe Church Audit for Congregations

The National Safe Church Unit has designated June as National Safe Church month. One of the ways we are responding to this is by launching our Synod’s annual Safe Church Audit for congregations. This is our third audit and provides helpful information for Placements and Safe Church, the wider Synod and presbyteries.

The 2021 Australia Post Community Grants Program offers grants of up to $10,000 for eligible community-led, local projects that help improve connection and mental health and well-being. Australia Post seeks to support communities and organisations helping to improve mental health outcomes.

Uniting Foundation grants offer financial support to establish projects that will help to build vibrant churches and communities into the future. The 2021 round is now open.

Event Highlight

Disaster Recovery Ministries 2-day training opportunity for volunteer chaplains will be on the 22nd and 23rd June at Seacliff Uniting Church. In addition to the Seacliff training, face-to-face training, both full and refresher, in some regional areas throughout the winter months are now on offer.

The Hare Street Uniting Church will hold its last service of worship on 27th June after nearly 100 years of service to the local community. The Keswick Methodist Church (1923) and the Kurralta Park Methodist Church (1930) amalgamated in 1955 to form the Hare Street Uniting Church.

Prayer Points

This week we pray for:

  • For the state of Victoria and its people as they continue to meet the challenges of this current COVID-19 outbreak
  • For those whose homes are unsafe places and for those living in violence and abuse. May we pray for their safety, healing and strength
  • For all who work to create safe spaces and places for children and young people.

 


Reflection of the week

We often hear people bemoan that the Church is dying. Is it? Or is it looking differently to how it was? And is that okay? Jesus significantly reminds the leaders that those who do as God wants, may be ‘doing, saying and being’ God’s people with a different faith-filled perspective from what has gone before.
