A Message from our Head of School - Jerry Salvador

In spite of the disruption caused by the snow, we kept things on track at Brookes Westshore this week. You can see from the photos that our students made the most of the weather and enjoyed time outside playing together and experiencing one of the great Canadian traditions – a snow ball fight! The heavy snow is also good news for our upcoming ski trips to Mt Washington Alpine Resort (see below for details).

For the next two weeks, we will be hosting a group of award-winning grade ten students from Guangdong Province, China. They will be joining our students in the classrooms as well as taking part in after school activities. This is a great opportunity for our school community to engage with some very accomplished students and to offer them a unique Vancouver Island welcome. The visiting students will be staying with host families,  and we look forward to having them as part of our school community.

I hope you have a great weekend and see you next week!

PS: If you have time tonight – pop by the gym for the 3 vs 3 tournament – it should be great fun!

New Grades Four and Five

We have been approached by a number of our parents about providing younger grades at Brookes Westshore. The IB has an excellent primary program but, until now, we have not had a space to offer additional grades.

However, recently we have been offered space in nearby Metchosin which will give us 2 classrooms and a full-size gymnasium.

Thus, we are pleased to offer Grade 4 and 5 next year. If you are interested, please contact me for additional information and to register your interest.

Weekend Activities

The first weekend back at Brookes from the holiday break was a great one! We can’t wait for more fun activities this term!

On Friday night, a group of students went to an Escape Room where they had to work together to solve clues and free themselves! It was a great time to reunite after not seeing each other for a couple of weeks.

On Saturday night, another group of students went to cheer on the Victoria Royals hockey team! It was an exciting game with lots of goals and fights! The end of the game was tied and went into a 3v3, sudden death, overtime! Unfortunately, the Royals ended up falling to the Portland Winter hawks in this nail-biting match.

Lastly, on Sunday, students went to Juan de Fuca Rec Centre where they participated in the public skate! It was awesome to see the students skate their way around the ice helping each other and, most importantly, having fun! See you all next weekend!

Senior Boys Basketball

The Senior Boys basketball team had their first game of 2020 against the mighty GNS! In the first half of game the team played the best basketball this season. We came out strong with lock down defense and aggressive offense. Unfortunately, in the second half fatigue set in and the talented GNS team took the lead. Even the referees commented on how hard our team played and how we showed great sportsmanship. Coaches Aija and Michaela are very proud of how the boys played and are excited to see GNS again in playoffs for revenge!
