Exchange and Study Abroad Information Session for Semester 2, 2015

Thinking of going on exchange/study abroad for Semester 2, 2015? Do you have an academic average of 65% or more? Looking for some guidance with your overseas study plan?

The Environments and Design Student Centre will be holding an information session to assist students currently preparing their exchange or study abroad application. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions after the session.

Staff from the Melbourne Scholarships Office will be participating in this session, providing information on the possible funding opportunities available for overseas study.

Students attending this event should have already attended a myWorld First Step session.

Tim Kasser: Consumerism, Society and our Ecological Future

In this MSSI public lecture, Tim Kasser will review two decades of psychological theory and research on values to show how contemporary culture’s focus on materialism and consumerism must be confronted if humans are to create a sustainable future.

He will present a strategic approach to reduce materialism via empirically-supported psychological interventions and broader social policies that would not only benefit the planet, but would promote people’s well-being and a more civil society.

Free tutorial assistance for Indigenous students

The Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS) is a specialised tutorial program established by the Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIISRTE) to enhance educational outcomes for Indigenous Australians.

It provides funding to Murrup Barak to employ qualified tutors who work one-to-one with enrolled Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to assist students with their academic studies.

Administered at the University by Murrup Barak as the ITAS Academic Excellence Program, it utilises current university staff and students to perform both individual and group tutoring for students across a broad range of discipline areas. This service is provided free to Indigenous students at the University.

Use of IT facilities

Students are reminded that the use of the University's computers and network are governed by University regulations, and misuse of facilities may result in action under disciplinary proceedings.

Misuse prohibited by regulation includes the use of personal devices attached to the University network.

The use of University facilities for any purpose which results in a breach of copyright (such as through peer-to-peer file sharing) is expressly forbidden, and may result in civil or criminal proceedings in addition to disciplinary proceedings.

Brookfield Multiplex PhD Scholarship in Construction Studies

Expressions of interest close: Friday 31 October 2014
Scholarship value: Stipend up to AUD $30,000 p.a. and fee remission for up to 3.5 years.

The Brookfield Multiplex PhD Scholarship program provides support to an outstanding scholar to investigate the factors leading to positive advancements in the building industry.

What does the improvement of project delivery rely on? What contributes to higher constructed quality? What determines a more efficient use of natural, material and human resources in the building process?

By tackling any of these issues within the specific topic of choice, the Brookfield Multiplex PhD Scholar is expected to contribute to the enhancement of the discussion about the future of the built environment, and highlight the role construction can play in bringing agendas of social, technological and economic sustainability to fruition.

Coming Out? Questioning Your Sexuality?

For those who are questioning their sexuality, wondering if they are Gay or Lesbian, uncertain who and how to tell, and what it means for them and their future. A space for discussion, fun, ideas and support.

Learn about careers in Urban Planning from our guest, Peter Mollison, who is a Senior Planner in local government with significant experience in the profession.
