Twin Cities See a Boost in Residential Construction

The Twin Cities residential construction market is looking better. Single-family permits were up 12 percent when compared to June 2014, while multi-family permits were up 55 percent from this time last year.

Supreme Court Preserves Protections of Fair Housing

In a 5-4 vote, the US Supreme Court "acknowledges the Fair Housing Act's continuing role in moving the nation toward a more integrated society," the court wrote. The ruling said a housing discrimination case can be based on disparate impact on minorities based on the federal fair housing law.

NAHB President Tom Woods released the following response to the ruling:

"NAHB is a strong supporter of the Fair Housing Act's goals to allow all people to obtain housing free from discrimination. The nation's home builders stand ready to develop and build safe and decent housing in all communities across the country.  However, as the court stated, the Fair Housing Act cannot put 'private developers in a double bind of liability, subject to suit whether they choose to rejuvenate a city core or to promote new low-income housing in suburban communities.' While today's U.S. Supreme Court decision has far reaching consequences for home builders and home buyers alike, we look forward to working with HUD and Congress to create clear rules that ensure builders can readily comply with the Fair Housing Act while assisting localities that need affordable housing."

Minnesota: CNBC's #1 State for Business

MN's low mark in the 10-part tally was a #35 ranking for the cost of doing business, something the homebuilding industry can confirm.
