Priorities for the delivery of the Diabetes Programme in the context of the rapidly increasing COVID-19 virus have been laid out by NHS England and NHS Improvement. In a letter, Professor Jonathan Valabhji, National Clinical Director for Diabetes and Obesity, Professor Partha Kar, National Specialty Advisor for Diabetes and Tom Newbound, Deputy Programme Director for NHS England’s Diabetes Programme have announced all programme delivery milestones have been paused until autumn 2020. The first in a series of virtual workshops about treating people with type 2 diabetes during Ramadan will take place this Thursday. A global team of health experts along with people living with diabetes have come together to encourage healthcare professionals to better communicate with people who have the condition amid the COVID-19 pandemic. A £100,000 grant has been made available so researchers can study how coronavirus affects people living with diabetes. Diabetes UK is urging scientists to submit their research applications now so they can find out more about how the virus impacts people with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes. The award-winning Low Carb Program has launched a new Digital Class Library to help people manage their diabetes during the period of social distancing and self-isolation. The brand-new resource will provide people with guided at-home workouts tailored to fitness level, mindfulness and meditation activities to support mental wellbeing and yoga workouts to support mental wellbeing at home.
