NSC eUpdate March 20, 2017

The spring 2017 Intern Pursuit internship fair will take place from 6:30 - 8 p.m. on Monday, March 20 in the student union Pegasus ballroom. Students are asked to wear business attire as well as bring a portfolio or resume. Please share this event news with your students.

UCF Downtown is preparing for its official groundbreaking at 10:30 -11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11 at the Center for Emerging Media (where we had our Fall workday – 500 W. Livingston Street). Though Title IX offers students protection from discrimination based on their gender identity, many LGBTQ students still face challenges and safety issues on campus. Take a moment to watch this video featuring interviews of more than a dozen gay, lesbian and transgender students as they detail what keeps them driven and motivated in college.

The Pride Faculty & Staff Association at UCF, Inc. and the College of Undergraduate Studies are the sponsors for the Dively-Dupuis LGBTQ Leadership Award. 

Criteria        

• Applicant must be enrolled at the University as a full-time student
• Preference will be given to students who are rising juniors or seniors when receiving the award.
• Applicant will have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5.
• Applicant will have demonstrated leadership and/or activism within the LGBTQ community on campus, in Orlando, the state, nationally or internationally.
• The criteria for awarding the Scholarship will be consistent with the guidelines established by the University Office of Student Financial Assistance.

Sick Leave Pools open enrollment is March 1 - March 31. To be eligible for membership, applicants must be employed with UCF continuously for at least one year and have accrued 64 hours of sick leave as of the pay period ending March 9, 2017. New members are required to donate 16 hours of their sick leave (part time employees will donate an amount proportionate to their FTE.) Current members do not need to rejoin during Open Enrollment. Recently a note was left in the NSC faculty and staff suggestion box. The writer noticed our current assortment of recycling boxes for pens, batteries and toner cartridges and asked if it would be possible to add another box for old light bulbs. After contacting our recycling partner, The SPOT, we were informed that light bulbs are not currently a part of their recycling program. We do appreciate all feedback and encourage you to continue to leave notes and suggestions with the goal of continuing to ensure that the Nicholson School is a quality work environment. 

Wiley Education Services is looking to hire a content strategy intern as part of its Future Leaders of Wiley summer internship intensive. The content strategy intern is a research-intensive position that focuses on the collection, interpretation and presentation of information, the results of which will be used to generate informed, insight-driven content strategies to move education prospects through the conversion funnel and toward eventual enrollment.
