New Format: Peer Guide Network

In September, we refreshed and relaunched the Peer Guide program as the International Peer Guide Network to better support new international students as they transition to life at Western and in Canada. The updated model emphasizes peer-to-peer connection and tailored programming. This January, we welcomed our second group of new students to the program during International Student Orientation.

The Peer Guide Network connects new students with trained upper-year international Peer Guides through informal events, online community spaces, and undergraduate- and graduate-specific programming. Peer Guides share practical advice on academics, campus life, and settling into London, helping students feel connected and supported beyond the classroom.

If you meet new international students seeking peer connection or community support, we encourage you to introduce them to the Peer Guide Network as a helpful resource early in their Western journey.

"Being part of the Peer Guide Program gives students a sense of belonging within the university community. It brings together students from different countries, encourages the sharing of experiences with peers from previous semesters, and helps new students learn about campus events and life in London and at Western. It is a truly welcoming and meaningful first step toward getting involved." - Silvia Rodrigues, first-year Master of Public Administration student and Peer Guide Network participant

Eunjung Riauka

Eunjung Riauka: Five Things About Me

  1. I’m the Director of International Learning and Safety Abroad at Western International. I have the privilege of leading a fantastic team that supports students and faculty participating in Western’s international learning opportunities.

  2. I grew up in Daegu, South Korea's third-largest city. I completed my undergraduate degree in English and Education, earning a teaching certificate. I spent my senior year studying abroad in Canada—an experience that changed the trajectory of my life. I returned home to finish my degree and eventually came back to Canada to build my life here. South Korea will always be my forever home, but Canada is where I grew into adulthood!!

  3. Studying abroad challenged my assumptions and taught me how deeply culture shapes the way we communicate and connect.

  4. I’m a lifelong learner in higher education. I’ve worked in the post‑secondary sector for more than 17 years. I completed a master’s degree in Post‑Secondary Studies at Memorial University in Newfoundland and am currently pursuing a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership at Western.

  5. I love playing tennis. I played varsity tennis for three years in high school, and it remains my favorite way to recharge and stay grounded.
