December Graduates: RSVP for Winter Commencement by December 6

To celebrate the achievements of every graduate in a timely and special way, the University of Pittsburgh will hold its first Winter Commencement ceremony — complete with confetti and "Sweet Caroline" — at the Petersen Events Center at 2 p.m. Dec. 17.

Going forward, a winter ceremony will recognize undergraduate and graduate students who earn their degrees between May and December, while the spring ceremony will remain for undergraduates who complete their graduation requirements between January and April.

Students who have earned or will earn a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree between May and December 2023 and wish to attend the ceremony must RSVP through their personal invitation to the ceremony, which was sent from the Office of Special Events on Oct. 16.

Each registered candidate will receive a minimum of four electronic tickets for guests via Ticketmaster. A final number of tickets each candidate will receive will be determined after the registration deadline, which is 5 p.m. Dec. 6. No late registrations will be accepted.

Research Coordinator Position at Boston University

The Approach Motivation & Participation (AMP) lab at Boston University is hiring a full-time research coordinator to help manage projects focused on mobile technology and experimental psychopathology. The AMP lab is located in Boston University’s Sargent College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences. Sargent College houses state-of-the-art interdisciplinary research teams focused on health and disability. Current AMP lab studies include several federal- and foundation-funded projects that require the leadership of a well-qualified candidate with interest in and experience in clinical science/psychopathology research. The position is available for one full year with high potential for future support.

Duties of the position will include coordination of day-to-day research operations, including:

  • Participant recruitment
  • Clinical assessment
  • Running study sessions
  • Supervision and training of research assistants to assist with data collection
  • Management of study documents (e.g., IRB, lab expenses)
  • Help in coordinating and attending regular meetings for both the team and specific projects

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS. Bachelor's degree with at least one year of relevant research experience. Excellent time management and organization skills, including strong attention to detail. Strong interpersonal communication skills. Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Able to be employed in the United States.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS. Knowledge of clinical research methods. Experience using research software (e.g., Qualtrics, MATLAB, Prolific). Working knowledge of statistics software (MPlus, R, SPSS or Jamovi). Strong skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience in programming (Java, Python). Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness (e.g., schizophrenia, bipolar disorder).

Full-time Clinical Research Specialist at Emory University

The Computational Mechanisms of Psychopathology Lab, located in the Department of Psychology at Emory University (PI: Vanessa Brown, PhD) is hiring for a full-time Clinical Research Specialist to start early 2024. Research in the lab uses neurocomputational approaches to study how learning and decision-making differ with psychopathology and treatment in anxiety, trauma, and depression.

Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to data collection, data management, participant recruitment and retention, and lab administration. Opportunities to contribute to computational modeling and other analyses of behavioral, clinical, and neuroimaging data are also available. Prior experience in these latter areas, while advantageous, is not required.

The following skills are preferred: experience with psychopathology and behavioral assessment; programming (R, Python, Matlab, Bash or similar); [f]MRI processing and analysis (FSL, AFNI, SPM). The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal and quantitative skills, programming experience, some experience in psychology or neuroscience research, and an interest in clinical applications of computational/cognitive neuroscience. However, applicants are not expected to have expertise in all areas and applicants with strong interests, but limited exposure, in these areas are also encouraged to apply.
