Our Annual Milk Quality consult visitsAs part of our obligations as prescribing Veterinarians in the rural sector, we are obliged to meet with you every year to look at your herd's Udder Health stats, Mastitis drug use and help with culling decisions where possible with herd test data. As Vets covering your area, this is an important opportunity to get a good insight into how herd health is on farms in general and particularly Mastitis. In light of the M.Bovis outbreak 2 years ago, this general Veterinary overview is critical for our rural biosecurity, so we hope we offer constructive advice for herd Udder health going forward. Lepto Vaccination Reminders· All Adult cows must be done annually, remember to include any Carryovers · R2 Heifers and R1 calves · Any other bovine stock (e.g steers, bulls etc) Teatsealing Heifer Reminders this Autumn/WinterThe Technician team will be calling you 24hrs prior to your teatsealing job, this is to go over logistics which will help ensure that the job runs smoothly and efficiently.
Please make sure you read the following guidelines: Off feed: To have a system as hygienic as possible, it is critical heifers are off crops or feed at least 12 hrs prior to teatsealing. Held overnight off feed and on straw/hay is ideal. This cuts down the sheer dung volume/water content by at least 70-80%, minimising the time Technicians have to repeatedly clean hands/arms/aprons/metalwork of dung. This is a significant cost of time and resource. Farm staff: The need for at least 3-4 farm staff again is important for efficiency and smooth movement of stock through the trailer crate system. Your help here in providing your staff is just excellent and has always resulted in an efficient, hygienic and tidy procedure. Drums: for waste products is very helpful if this can be provided. Wooden pellets: These are needed on some properties to raise either the crate or the Techs up to Load ramp level. The techs will confirm this with you. Our 2019 Technician Team Blunt Hoof Knife? We now have the capability to sharpen Hoof knives. The cost of this is just $10/knife (including GST). If you require this please drop your knife off to the Culverden Clinic and our in-house whiz Jamie will sharpen it for you.
