Weight, Drinking Top Breast Cancer Factors TCRN members have led a data research project which found obesity and drinking are the leading preventable contributors to breast cancer in Australia. The large collaborative study led by UNSW’s Centre for Big Data Research in Health was published in the International Journal of Cancer and was reported by SBS News. World Cancer Day impact report The World Cancer Day impact report 2019 is now available, featuring global statistics for the campaign. Australian social media highlighted include Greg Hunt on additional MRI licences and our UNSW World Cancer Day message. Funding opportunitiesCONCERT Grants Grants of $125,000 for up to 1 year are available to provide salary shortfall to retain outstanding early- or mid-career (i.e. no more than 15 years post-PhD or most recent specialist recognition) research fellows. Grants of up to $50,000 for 1 year are available to undertake projects in at least one priority area. Grants of up to $150,000 over 2 years are available to undertake projects in at least one priority area. CONCERT Seed Translational Grant A grant of up to $150,000 over 2 years is available to undertake a project in at least one priority area with the potential to be translated into policy and practice. The CONCERT vision, priorities and objectives are outlined in the CONCERT Strategy Scheme Deadline (all grants): 20 May 2019 (Midnight). Conference Sponsorship Program Round two of the 2019 Conference Sponsorship Program with the Office of the NSW Chief Scientist & Engineer is now open. Conferences/workshops held in NSW during the 2019/20 financial year are eligible for the program. TCRN Conference and Professional Development Grants Round 2 of the TCRN Conference and Professional Development Grants are now open. The grants are offered to expand and enhance the knowledge and skills of members in the area of translational cancer-related research or cancer care service delivery, at both national and international levels. Enquiries to tcrn@unsw.edu.au Deadline: 6 May 2019 TCRN Conference and Professional Development Grants The TCRN is offering competitively awarded Conference and Professional Development Grants to expand and enhance the knowledge and skills of members in the area of translational cancer-related research or cancer care service delivery, at both national and international levels. Travel dates are between 1 July - 31 December 2019. Enquiries and application submission to tcrn@unsw.edu.au. Deadline: 6 May 2019 UNSW-Chinese Academy of Sciences Collaborative Research Seed Grants The UNSW-CAS Collaborative Research Seed Fund Program will provide seed grants for mobility and projects to identify, promote and encourage opportunities for collaborative research and development in areas of common interest between UNSW & CAS researchers within the theme areas of neuroscience and nonotechnology. Deadline: 10 May 2019 Lung Cancer Research Program The LCRP, part of the US Department of Defence was initiated to promote innovative and competitive research focused on the development of integrated disciplines to identify, treat, and manage early curable lung cancer. The program currently has a number of awards on offer. Applications are strongly encouraged to focus on relevance to military health. Deadline: 15 May 2019 (pre-application) Cancer Institute NSW Research Fellowships CI NSW is offering Early Career and Career Development Fellowships for researchers to build on their research capability and become leaders of their own research team. Deadline: 16 May 2019 Cancer CAG Seed Grants Grants of up to $200,000 over 2 years are available to undertake projects that align with the Cancer Clinical Academic Group Areas of Focus: The grant application form contains further information and instructions on how to apply. Deadline: 2 June 2019 ACI Grant The NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI) targets the design, evaluation and implementation of innovative models of patient care. Their research Grant Scheme is now open for projects that align with the ACI’s mandate, functions, strategic plan and research priorities. Deadline: 14 June 2019 Triple I CAG Seed Grants Five seed grants of $75,000 will be available to collaborative networks developed or nurtured through the Triple I initiative. One grant must be led by an early or mid-career researcher (E/MCR) and one grant must be primarily a laboratory-based grant, with laboratory/clinician co-leadership. Applications will be reviewed by an external grant review panel prior to the award being made. Please see the EOI form for further details. Deadline: 3 May 2019 Seminars and eventsAustralasian Ocular Melanoma Summit The first annual Australasian Ocular Melanoma Summit, hosted by the Australasian Ocular Melanoma Alliance, will take place over two days. May 3 is Science and Clinical program and May 4 Patient and Carer Day. Free registration. Where: Garvan Institute of Medical Research Australian Cancer & Metabolism Meeting The third annual meeting will engage a diverse group of scientists and clinicians with expertise in nutrient metabolism, cancer biology, signal transduction and network modelling to explore and discuss the latest developments in metabolic regulation in cancer.
