This week, students who have nominated to be House Captains for 2021 addressed their peers in Camden, Haven, Taylor and Watson Houses and eight candidates presented speeches to Stage groups in an effort to be named as School Captain or Vice Captain. All candidates spoke very well and the school will have a quality team as role models and leaders for the remainder of this year and 2021. Voting for these positions and also for year representatives for each year group was on Thursday and the successful applicants will be announced in term four.
Students in Year 12 will return for the first week in term four and will be attending workshops across the week for each of their subjects. This will be their final preparation for their formal examinations which begin on Tuesday 20 October. Congratulations to all our wonderful and resilient students on your achievements during what has been a very challenging year. Well done and best wishes for the HSC examinations.
The announcement from the Premier that graduations and formals are able to be held is welcome news for Year 12 students and their families. After considering the guidelines that have been provided, the school is planning on holding a graduation ceremony for students and two members of the family, possibly on Friday 13 November, with a formal for students and supervising staff on Thursday 3 December. There are strict guidelines which need to be followed for both of these events and we will keep students and families informed of the requirements next term.
New guidelines for schools have been released for term four and excursions and field trips may be scheduled and Year 6 Transition will go ahead. Interstate excursions are not allowed and non-essential personnel continue to not be allowed onsite. Guidelines for families will be made available on our website.
Students in Years 10 and 8 have completed their subject selections with some final tweaking is being undertaken.  Year 11 students moving into Year 12 are also confirming their pattern of study for their HSC year.
This term we have farewelled three members of staff who have separated from the DoE. Mrs Hamilton, Mrs Koch and Mrs Rienstra have said goodbye and we wish them well for the future and thank them for their fantastic contributions to our school and Public Education.
I would like to wish all students and staff a restful, happy and safe vacation. School resumes on Monday 12 October.

Mrs M Hutchinson

Year 9 Marine Excursion

On Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 September Year 9 Marine Studies students visited Dunbogan and North Haven beaches to undertake a marine debris survey.  This involved students mapping out a section of the beach and methodically collecting any manmade wastes along the way. The marine debris was then taken back to school, analysed and the collected data uploaded to the Tangaroa Blue Foundation database so Scientists can use our data to get a better picture of the marine debris issue. Students have now used the debris collected to produce posters that will help raise awareness about marine debris with the general school population.

Accelerated HSC Preparation Program

Congratulations to 19 of our highest achieving Year 10 students who have been selected to participate in Camden Haven High School’s new and exciting program called The Accelerated HSC Preparation Program.
Students were selected based on
1.      Sustained achievement of academic excellence during Years 7-10
2.      ATAR pattern of study (2021)
3.      Demonstrated work ethic, application and effort towards their studies (Years 7-10)
4.      Motivation, commitment to learning and drive to succeed in the HSC
5.      Year Advisor and teacher recommendations and feedback
The students will participate in this program one period each week during Term 4 with our Learning Edge Coordinator, Mrs Neville.  Students will gain a valuable insight into the standards, expectations and work ethic required to succeed and achieve excellence in the HSC. The workshops will provide students with the knowledge, skills and understandings necessary for an effective transition to senior schooling. Best of luck to all.

Year 8 Party Painting

Our talented Year 8 Art students have been busy with their "Party Paintings". The students had a class party (pre COVID) where they photographed and sketched their party food. They then cropped these images and enlarged them onto an approximately 30cm x 30cm square, then painted with acrylic paint. Students chose between painting expressively or more realistically. Well done!
