This day in sporting history...

1877  The first-ever Wimbledon tennis championship begins, it's the first official lawn tennis tournament and it's Men's Singles only!

1900  New Zealand cricket legend Richard Hadlee takes 5-53 in the third test versus England at Edgbaston to end his Test career with 431 wickets.

 

The definition of... 
diet

There are books now on proper diets for bowlers.  They tell you to lay off heavy food six hours before bowling. 

They advise against red meat, fatty foods, sugar, salt, caffeine, white flour, and oh dear, even beer.  They tell you you've got to have fibre, you've got to drink six glasses of water a day.  You can have a heart attack worrying about it all!

NZ high performance
squads announced

Bowls New Zealand yesterday announced its High Performance squads recently selected by their Bowls NZ Selection Panel.  

The squads will start preparing for a spot in the NZ team for the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games being held in July/August 2022.

Date: 9-11 July 2021
Good luck & play well to our Auckland Women's and Men's Champ of Champs Pairs - Olivia Bloomfield and Paris Baker from New Lynn, Lief Selby and James Williams from Carlton Cornwall. 

Both teams compete in this weekend's 2021 Champ of Champs Pairs finals at Hopes Dunedin Lawn Bowls Stadium in Dunedin.

Here's their draw for Friday...
Olivia & Paris start their day with a bye in the first round, then in round 2 at 10.20am they meet Lillian Tukiri & Lyn Bowcock from Hawkes Bay.  In round 3 at 12.40pm they encounter Tanya Wheeler & Janalle Frew from  Waiarapa. 

At 3.00pm in round 1, Lief & James square off against Steve Beel & Nicholas Tomsett from Bay of Plenty, followed by a bye in round 2.  In round 3 at 7.40pm they compete against Scott Ramsay & Matt Tautari from Southland.
