Catch all the latest Council news on Gladstone Regional Council's TV news bulletin. The July bulletin was aired on Channel Seven on July 29. The bulletin is aired on the last Monday of each month between Seven's local news and weather segments. Residents can also watch the bulletin via the Council TV webpage.

Heats lead to Senior Talent Star Quest final

Regional heats for Council's 2013 Senior Talent Star Quest, proudly supported by Australia Pacific LNG, are in progress and will lead to the quest grand final at the Gladstone Entertainment Centre Marina Marquee on Friday, August 23 at 7pm. Residents are invited to comment on the draft findings of Council's Agnes Water/Seventeen Seventy and Calliope structure planning presentations related to its new planning scheme. Gardens prepares for its 25th birthday celebrations

Gardening personality Costa Georgiadis will be a special guest speaker at the Gladstone Tondoon Botanic Gardens 25th birthday celebrations on October 6.

Costa, the host of the ABC television program Gardening Australia, will speak at the family fun day along with Professor Tim Entwisle, the Director and Chief Executive of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Melbourne.

Rates notices to arrive in mail from August 20

Residents can expect their rates notices to arrive in the mail from August 20.

Ratepayers who pay their rates in full before close of business on September 20, 2013 will receive a 10 per cent discount.

A five per cent discount is available for those who pay in full between September 21 and October 22, 2013.

Discounted microchipping sessions held next month

National Pet Register will host two, regional $25 per animal cat and dog microchipping sessions in August, supported by Gladstone Regional Council.

The discounted microchipping events will be held from 9am to 2pm on August 10 at William Miskin Park on Morgan Street, Gladstone and on August 11 at the Seventeen Seventy SES Grounds on Captain Cook Drive.

Upcoming Council general meeting dates are August 6 and August 20. Residents are welcome to attend from 9am at 101 Goondoon Street, Gladstone.

Days left to comment on litter strategy

Only a few days remain to comment on Gladstone Regional Council's Illegal Dumping and Litter Prevention Strategy. The Strategy aims to address the impacts of illegal dumping and littering within the Gladstone Region and details the measures by which Council intends to reduce these occurrences. An online survey closes at 5pm on Friday, August 2 and can be accessed via Council's website.

CouncillorConnect visits in August

The next round of CouncillorConnect visits will be held on Thursday, August 29 at Benaraby Progress Hall, Sandcastles Motel and Resort, Many Peaks Hotel and Rosedale Memorial Hall. Morning tea is open to all community members from 9.30am to 10.15am with 20-minute individual meetings with Councillors available from 10.15am to 11.55am. Seniors Week program out now

Over 55s are the focus from August 17 to 25 as part of the 2013 Seniors Week Program. The annual event is extremely popular and celebrates the contribution of Seniors to our community. Council is working with community groups to present a varied program, including tours, workshops and a fashion parade. Events will be held at various regional locations and times to cater for all.
