If you are able to provide any assistance, please email lawaccess@lawaccess.net.au. - Fines / bankruptcy: A vulnerable applicant seeks advice to manage orders regarding a fine and the cancellation of her driver’s licence.
Equal opportunity law: Initial advice is sought regarding potential claims against an educational institution in relation to disability discrimination Care and Protection: Expressions of interest are sought from lawyers with experience in care and protection matters willing to occasionally provide pro bono assistance. Family law: A range of matters, including matters suitable for lawyer assisted mediation. Aboriginal Wills Pro Bono Panel: Expressions of interest are sought for a panel of firms able to assist disadvantaged Aboriginal applicants with the preparation of free simple wills. Two community legal centres (Knowmore and the Aboriginal Family Law Services) will communicate directly with panel members to arrange referrals. Some applicants will be based in the metropolitan area while others are in remote and regional Western Australia. Some applicants will require priority assistance due to poor health.
External EventsModern Slavery Act Roundtable for Legal PractitionersThe Modern Slavery Business Engagement Unit invites you to a roundtable for legal practitioners about the Modern Slavery Act. This roundtable will be held on 29 August 2019 from 2.15pm – 3.30pm at the Perth office of the Department of Home Affairs (836 Wellington St, West Perth). It will provide an informal opportunity for legal practitioners to discuss the
implementation of the Act with the Unit, including common issues raised by clients and areas where further Government guidance may be required. Modern Slavery Act Workshops for BusinessOn 28 and 29 August 2019, the Australian Government will hold two free workshops in the Perth CBD for organisations likely to be covered by the Modern Slavery Act or that want to
learn how to respond to modern slavery risks in their supply chains. Each workshop will run from 10.00am – 1.00pm and will include information about the Act and the compliance process, as well as opportunities to engage with businesses already reporting under similar legislation overseas.
