As a busy 2018 draws to a close we are pleased to share our latest news, including awards, commercial and residential projects, press, research, lectures and the practice’s recent ISO 9001 certification. Awards Straight after being ‘Highly Commended’ at the Sunday Times House of the Year Awards for Kenwood Lee House, we are proud to have been shortlisted with De Beauvoir House in the Architect’s Journal Specification Awards. We have been recognised in the 'Stairs and Lifts' category for the project’s bespoke sculptural steel staircase. Kenwood Lee House has also been shortlisted for the Haringey Design Awards 2018 under 'The Best House' category and for the SBID International Design Awards 2018. Banstead Place Work is progressing on our proposal for the restoration and remodelling of a Grade II* listed manor house in Surrey, including new build dwellings to the formal and kitchen walled gardens to provide over 30 new homes. The project has been developed to propose a sympathetic design typology to the historic site and local context, and is due for planning determination in early 2019. RESI Conference We are delighted to announce that Architect Alisdair Gray has been promoted to Associate. Alisdair recently attended this year's RESI conference. Bringing together leading developers, landlords, house builders, housing authorities, investors and local authorities, RESI explores pertinent themes and trends in the residential sector. NLA - Modular Exhibition Our 'narrow gauge' modular housing project is part of the New London Architecture 'Factory-made Housing: a Solution for London?' exhibition which was launched in October and will remain open to the public in the NLA galleries until January 2019. Our vision for this project is to deliver affordable, unconventional and futuristic housing projects. RIBA J feature Cousins & Cousins’ Kenwood Lee House, a double-fronted villa located near Hampstead Heath, has recently been featured in the RIBA J. It was described as “a quietly impressive family home with a relatively restrained elevation that belies the more radical moves within". On Site Projects Our commercial team currently have two new projects on site. We are working with Uncommon on a project that comprises the fit out of a 53,000 sq ft co-working office in Liverpool Street. We are also progressing works with the refurbishment of iconic Camden nightclub KoKo and surrounding buildings. Practice in Public Director Jelena Cousins recently contributed to a discussion panel at the RIBA Rising Stars Awards where she was questioned by the audience about her career path into architecture. Jelena was also on the judging panel for the Brick Awards which showcases and celebrates exemplary clay brick architecture. Director Ben Cousins will be speaking at Surface Design Show’s PechaKucha on February 6th, with the theme 'Identities and Boundaries - Site Specific Responses to Modern Architecture'. Ben will also be speaking at Kingston School of Art on 16th January 2019. As an Alumnus of Kingston University, Ben has been invited to talk on the theme of "Collaborative Production: A Stakeholder Conversation" to the next generation of aspiring architects. Brockley Grange Our proposal to extend and refurbish an existing Grade II listed farm house situated within the Greenbelt in Stanmore has been submitted to the local authority for consideration. The design also creates two new dwellings from the amalgamation of demolished outbuildings. ISO 9001 certification As the practice grows we have been keen to formalise Cousins & Cousins’ commitment to quality, service and continual improvement. We are pleased to announce that we have recently achieved ISO 9001 certification – an internationally regarded standard of managing quality. Cousins & Cousins is an award winning London based practice working across the residential, commercial, mixed use, public art and cultural sectors. Our residential projects span one-off houses in the prime and super prime sectors as well as several multi-unit schemes. Working with developers, investors, and private end-users, our process is iterative and collaborative through all project stages from site appraisal, project completion, and post completion evaluation.
