The labor shortage facing our industry and our efforts to solve this issue made the front page of the Star Tribune today. Several of our members and our executive director, David Siegel, were quoted in the story. Siegel talks about our joint efforts in creating Project Build Minnesota, which is a coalition of construction industry leaders who have come together with a goal of making construction a ‘first career choice’ for Minnesotans.

The Trump administration announced last week that it will repeal the Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule. The main criticism of the WOTUS rule is that it includes an expanded definition of federally-regulated waters that includes canals, collection ponds, ditches, and isolated wetlands that are nowhere near the waters it was intended to protect.

Single-family construction surged ahead in June with a total of 612 permitted units. The last time Twin Cities home builders pulled more than 600 permits in a single month was in January of 2006. Multifamily construction slowed slightly in June with 385 permitted units.

Mid-Year Housing Economic SummitThis half-day summit starts with breakfast, followed by a legislative update on home ownership initiatives, an informative review of Minnesota demographic trends by the MN State Demographer, a panel discussion by builders and realtors on the housing market/industry and outlook for the future, and an insightful overview of US and Minnesota economic trends by experienced economist, Ed Kashmarek. Some of the sessions have been approved for real estate continuing education credits.
