Fines, Violations and Audits! Oh, My!
In each of the last five years, the Environmental Protection Agency has conducted, on average, 19,000 inspections and evaluations of companies throughout the United States. (Having trouble viewing this email? View it in your browser).
Those 19,000 inspections/year have generated approximately $122 million in fines each year. In FY 2011, EPA enforcement actions required companies to pay over $152 million in civil penalties which was the highest total in the last five years! When you factor in penalties from the state level that number jumps to $168 million in fines.
