GRADUATE SCHOOL INFORMATION


The Ph.D. program at FAU emphasizes independent, mentor-guided research and coursework that provides a broad knowledge of psychology, including training in basic and advanced experimental design.

Our faculty is engaged in cutting-edge research in Behavioral Neuroscience, Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience, Developmental Psychology, and Social and Personality Psychology.  Many members of our faculty are affiliated with the Center for Complex Systems and the Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute.  We do not offer a program in clinical psychology at this time.

All of our graduate students receive teaching or research assistantships with substantial tuition waivers.  Upon completing their degrees, our students have obtained post-doctoral and tenure-track faculty appointments at major universities across the country. To be considered for admission in the Fall of 2025, application materials must be submitted by the application deadline (12/1/24).  Please note that GRE scores are optional.

POST-GRADUATE OPPORTUNITIES


Clinical Research Coordinator

A Clinical Research Coordinator is needed to coordinate two studies focused on identifying risk for suicidal thoughts and behaviors STBs in adolescent girls. The first study, which is funded by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, focuses on dyadic processes (gaze and affect) during parent-teen interactions. The second study, funded by the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation, uses EEG and ecological momentary assessment (EMA) to understand the relations between internal attention to cues of social threat, day-to-day social connectedness, and STBs. The coordinator will 1) work with study staff from an ongoing NIMH-funded R01 to recruit participants, 2) schedule and conduct EEG and dyadic study visits, 3) assist with data processing and management, 4) interact with the Institutional Review Board to prepare and modify protocols, consent forms, and reports, 5) maintain regulatory binders and standard operating procedure binders to assure compliance with Governmental and University regulations, 6) manage a small team of undergraduate research assistants, and 7) assist with manuscript preparation and publication.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or related field
  • No research experience required, but 2 years of experience is preferred.
  • Evidence of excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
  • Experience working with adolescents is preferred

Full-time Postbac Study Coordinator

Job Description Summary          
This person in this position will assist and support scientific investigations of cognitive and brain basis of social processes in psychiatric disorders (e.g. psychosis, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, autism-spectrum disorders) directed by Dr. Ivy Tso in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health. The person will screen, assess, and schedule research participants for the project, administer neurocognitive and computerized assessments, oversee eye tracking data collection, and guide participants through EEG and fMRI scans. Responsibilities will also include data collection; maintenance of study records; data entry, maintenance, and upload to NIH databases; accurate completion of daily paperwork and administrative tasks; preparing assessment materials; various participant contact; adherence to all study protocols; assist with regulatory upkeep; and coordinating/attending weekly team meetings. The position requires a 2-year commitment and is renewable up to 4 years, depending on performance. It is an ideal steppingstone for those considering pursuing a graduate degree in clinical psychology or cognitive neuroscience.
