Annual Reporting

Submit by 31 March to be an Award Winner

The reporting portal has been open since October for those signatories reporting in 2015. Signatories who are expected to report in 2015 should now have received their unique link to their reporting template. If you have not received a link, you may need to update your contact details with the APC – please email apc@packagingcovenant.org.au to do so. Signatories who did not have an accepted action plan in place as of April 30 2014 are not required to report in 2015.

For those looking for information on how to report, check out the recently revised annual reporting video or contact a member of the Member Services Team.

Business Clean Up Day 2015

As part of our commitment to reducing litter in the environment, the APC recommends that all signatories participate in a community clean-up on a regular basis.  In fact, we encourage you to clean up every day!  But if you’re waiting for a specific event, the 24th of February is Business Clean Up Day, run by Clean Up Australia.  This is a great opportunity for your organisation to work together while spending a couple of hours cleaning up a site of your choice.  Registering a site is easy and generates great team morale – you can do it via: http://www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au/register/.

Like in previous years, the APC will be offering prizes to signatories who go above and beyond.

This year’s categories:

1. The organisation that collects the largest number of full bags per participant (photographs required!)

2. The organisation with the highest number of employees participating on the day relative to turnover (as declared to the APC)

This year’s prizes will consist of four tickets to our Annual Awards Nights for each winning organisation, and a $1000 Replas voucher. In the spirit of product stewardship, the winners of these vouchers will be encouraged to donate them to the local school, community group or sporting team of their choice.  You can see what last year’s winners, Sanitarium and Baiada, achieved here.

APC Projects Update

Completed Project
NSW 165/12

Integrated Packaging Recovery Service for the Electrical Retail Sector

This project established a unique program to collect and recycle packaging, including cardboard, shrink/loose plastic and EPS from electrical retail outlets across New South Wales.  The project has now provided a collection service of expandable polystyrene (EPS) from 94 retail electrical stores across New South Wales, and 241 across other states.

From January to December 2014 the program diverted approximately 10,678m3 of EPS from landfill in New South Wales which has now been compacted and sent for recycling into new products.

Building Recovery and Markets for PIW Containers Below 200 Litres

This project addressed small prescribed industrial waste (PIW) containers, a challenging PIW waste stream component which is otherwise difficult to tackle. Unlike containers over 200 litres, this packaging stream is not excluded from landfill by regulation.

Sustainable Resource Use (SRU) undertook this knowledge and capacity building project with the aims to increase the diversion of PIW packaging from landfill disposal.
