LATEST NEWS NBCF Grant success Congratulations to Dr David Croucher (Garvan Institute and UNSW Medicine) and team, recipients of National Breast Cancer Foundation funding for their project Targeting the JNK protein to effectively treat Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC). The NBCF awarded over $10 million to 16 projects to support its aim of zero breast cancer deaths by 2030. Palliative Care Economic Report Launched The report “Investing to Save: The Economics of Increased Investment in Palliative Care in Australia” was recently launched at an event hosted by the Parliamentary Friends of Palliative Care Group. The report calls for an overhaul of the palliative care system in Australia, including an additional annual investment of just over $350 million, which will result in a saving of over $450 million across the broader health care system every year. Cancer care shortcut wins UNSW entrepreneur showcase The Alten medical device team have taken first prize in the the UNSW Founders competition, the Peter Farrell Cup. Alten guides doctors to provide the best health care for cancer patients by developing personalised treatment strategies. GRANTSTranslational Seed Funding Scheme The Maridulu Budyari Gumal 2020 Translational Seed Funding scheme aims to support translational projects focusing on implementation of evidence into clinical practice. The grant aims to provide pilot data to inform subsequent NSW Health Translational Research Grants (TRGS) and Cancer Institute NSW Translational grants. Up to $20K available per project. Deadline: 15 June 2020 MRFF COVID-19 Mental Health Research Grant This MRFF Coronavirus Research Response grant opportunity will support research to understand how the mental health system can be enhanced to be most effective and responsive during and following the acute COVID-19 crisis. This may include data systems, treatments, services and new policies both during and beyond the crisis. Deadline: 13 July 2020 AWARDS, TRAINING AND RESOURCESConsumer and Community Involvement Training Urgent call for EOIs for a Consumer and Community Involvement Training Workshop to be held over June/July. The purpose of the workshop is to build skills, confidence and capacity for researchers and research organisations and is aimed at Maridulu Budyari Gumal (SPHERE) Leaders and research members. EOI Deadline: Noon, 5 June 2020 PoCoG ECR Webinar - Managing Track record When: 17 June 2020 UTS Cancer symptom trials survey The UTS Cancer symptom management priority setting survey is open to health care professionals and people living with or caring for those with cancer. The survey aims to identify gaps in prevention, detection or management of cancer and treatment-related symptoms and provide directions for research and clinical trials. Therapeutic Development Workshop At the 2019 Therapeutic Development Workshop, experts shared perspectives on the challenges of moving a therapy from basic research discovery to the clinic - exploring all stages of therapeutic development. ABOUT USTCRN The Translational Cancer Research Network (TCRN) is a translational cancer research centre program funded by the Cancer Institute NSW and is a collaborative and interactive cancer research community based in the South East of Sydney, with links to cancer services and researchers in inner and southern Sydney, and Albury. It was formed to create an innovative and supportive environment for the translation of cancer research into improvements in patient care. CONCERT The Centre for Oncology Education, Research and Training (CONCERT) is a translational research centre program funded by the Cancer Insitute NSW. CONCERT exists to bring together the knowledge and expertise of cancer health professionals and researchers to facilitate translation of research generated evidence into practice to achieve better outcomes for those affected by cancer. Cancer CAG The Cancer Clinical Academic Group (Cancer CAG) brings together clinicians and researchers from three universities, four cancer services (with six major treatment facilities) and three Medical Research Institutes. Our combined research strength spans the translational medicine spectrum of bench to bedside and health service delivery.
