Dundee named in top 10 best European destinations

The “thriving, creative” city of Dundee has been rated as one of the best places in Europe to visit this year by Lonely Planet.

Dundee, the Lonely Planet said, has often been overlooked by visitors to Scotland, deserves its place in the top ten because of its head-turning transformation and “nationally important museums and attractions”.

Enquiry Centre closed afternoon of Wednesday 30 May

The Enquiry Centre will be closed for the Annual Service Review on Wednesday 30 May 1.45pm - 4pm. Any enquirers will be directed to the Hive, Level 4, DUSA.


 

Dundee Foodbank box - new locations

The Dundee Foodbank box is no longer in the Tower Building foyer, please drop off your contributions at the Chaplaincy Centre instead. There is also a box in the LLC staff room.

Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Contributions to Teaching

Four esteemed colleagues have been recognised this year by the conferment of the Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Contributions to Teaching at the University:

  • Janice Aitken, Senior Lecturer and Associate Dean for Quality & Academic Standards, Art & Design
  • Professor Stuart Cross, Professor of Law and Head of Discipline, Social Sciences
  • John Lee, Head of Undergraduate Studies, Nursing & Health Sciences
  • Professor John Peters, Professor of Pharmacology, Life Sciences

The winners of the Chancellor's Award must demonstrate enhancement to practice, sustainable change and impact as a result of their teaching.

The Student Led Teaching Awards took place on Friday 11 May at DUSA | The Union. 

Students nominated staff in different categories and the winners were announced at the black tie dinner and awards ceremony.

Student’s car seat will stop dogs having ‘ruff’ ride

They may be man’s best friend but beloved pet pooches can become lethal projectiles when caught up in car accidents. However, an ingenious new system developed by student Minrui Jiao could herald the beginning of safer doggy days out!

Walk a Daily Mile launch (Thu 31 May)

Staff are invited to take a break from the office, lab or classroom any time between 12noon and 2pm on Thursday 31 May and join colleagues in walking a mile around City Campus to mark the launch of the University's Daily Mile initiative.

Walking the City Campus Circular route only takes 15-25 minutes and is a great way to enjoy some fresh air and re-energise yourself.

The route will be clearly signposted on the day and we hope that you will welcome the start of summer with a spring in your step.

Marie Curie Annual Abseil (Sun 3 Jun)

Marie Curie is looking for daredevils for its annual abseil down the Tower Building on Sunday 3 June.

Participants must be 16 or over, pay £25 to register and commit to raise £100 for the charity which provides free professional nursing care to the terminally ill at home. All money raised stays in the DD postcode area.
