Have your say on Cairns CBD Drainage WorksCouncil is seeking information from the the business community about flooding and drainage issues in the Cairns CBD Environs Catchment. The 16 suburbs that form this catchment are Aeroglen, Bayview Heights, Bungalow, Cairns City, Cairns North, Earlville, Edge Hill, Kanimbla, Manoora, Manunda, Mooroobool, Parramatta Park, Portsmith, Westcourt, Whitfield and Woree. If you have experienced flooding or drainage problems within this area, we want to hear from you by 14 December. Donations to the Mayor's Christmas Cheer Appeal can be made securely via Council’s website or over the counter at one of Council’s customer service centres with cash, credit card, cheque or money order. Donations over $2 are tax deductible. Awards now openCairns Regional Council's annual Australia Day Awards recognise citizens who have made a major contribution to the community. This is your opportunity to nominate a friend, colleague, relative or someone who deserves recognition for their achievements and contributions to the Cairns community. Designated Area Migration Agreement SurveyThe Cairns Chamber of Commerce is seeking input into an extensive Business Case to the Minister of Immigration outlining the need for a Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) in our region. A DAMA has the potential to streamline the recruitment of overseas skilled workers where there is a demonstrated need. The Cairns Chamber of Commerce needs your input and feedback to help build the business case for the DAMA in our region including identifying the areas where concessions to existing visa regulations are required. An integral part of building the evidence for the Business Case requires employers in Far North Queensland to provide feedback. If you have sponsored an employee now or in the past and would like to retain skilled migrants in our region, please complete the survey by 17 December 2018. Funding opportunities workshopJoin Regional Development Australia FNQ&TS and the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) to discuss potential project opportunities in our region. The Federal Government has made securing NAIF loans for infrastructure projects easier and has introduced tremendous breadth to the types of projects NAIF is able to support.
