This Week's Top Stories

BATC Leaders Host MN House Leadership
As BATC continues to elevate our industry and prepares for upcoming legislative and regulatory battles, our leadership hosted House Speaker Kurt Daudt (R-Crown) and Majority Leader Joyce Peppin (R-Rogers) at our house (BATC) last week. We discussed the sprinkler issue, preparing for the 2016 legislative session, and the elections next fall. BATC leaders expressed a desire to work more closely with the House leadership on making homebuilding advocacy issues a greater priority in legislative and regulatory discussions. We had a great meeting and look forward to more opportunities to advance industry priorities such as park dedication fee reform, workforce issues, and condo-ownership efforts.

BATC Leaders Visit the Met Council
With the Met Council’s system statements out to local governments and the comprehensive planning processes gearing up, BATC continues to press for an emphasis on a rolling, flexible land supply throughout our region. As we’ve experienced previously, lack of a flexible land supply can create shortages which inevitably lead to soaring land prices and leapfrog development to the exurbs, outcomes undesirable for BATC and the Met Council. We had a good discussion with the Met Council leadership and staff who have pledged deeper engagement on providing guidance to key growing communities as we move into the comprehensive planning process.
