Thank you for your support Student Horizons team welcomed into the Yavulo Community in Fiji!At the beginning of November, the New Zealand and Australian Student Horizons team members took a trip to Fiji to visit the village of Yavulo. Yavulo is situated on the southwest side of the main island of Fiji, next to Sigatoka, known as “Rugby Town,” due to their high involvement in the Fijian Rugby scene. The SH team members were greeted by the village chief who took us to see various parts of the village, including a warm welcome from the children in the pre-elementary school. The team sang children's songs together with the class, and each SH team member donated gifts and school supplies to the school to promote more opportunities for learning. The Ministry of Education Representative then joined the team as they congregated in the Village Hall to be blessed with Kava, and welcome songs. The team were then shown the new pre-elementary school, which is currently under construction. The project is funded by St Joseph’s Nudgee College who were hosted by Yavulo Village in September, and the work itself is promoting youth development by employing apprentice builders to complete the building process. The other activities included eating traditional Fijian lovo, singing songs with the community, and talking to the locals. Student Horizons also performed a traditional Maori song for the locals, led by team member Grace Neale, who is a professional vocalist. The entire team at SH felt honoured to have been welcomed into the Yavulo Community and can’t wait to see the relationship between Student Horizons and Yavulo village flourish further. Thank you for welcoming us into your community! Let's discuss your next overseas school trip 2017 in a Nutshell! This year has been an exciting year for Student Horizons.
