Study Investigates PRP Injections for ED Treatment
Platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) injections may be a "safe and effective" treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED), according to the results of a recent Journal of Sexual Medicine paper.
In the study, improvements were maintained for six months.
The study involved 60 men with mild-to-moderate ED. Thirty of the men received two PRP injections, which were spaced one month apart. The rest of the men received placebo injections on the same schedule.
Six months after the second injection, 69% of the men in the PRP group had attained minimal clinically important differences (MCIDs), compared to 27% of the placebo group.
No adverse events were reported.
The authors recommended further research to confirm their findings.
