A Position Statement on the cardiovascular impact of new diabetes medications has been published by ABCD. The document has been drafted to help and support ABCD members and healthcare professionals who are treating people with diabetes. The deadline for the 2021 Rowan Hillson Inpatient Safety Award has been extended to give busy healthcare professionals more time to submit an application, organisers have said. The theme for this year’s prize, which is organised by Joint British Diabetes Societies for Inpatient Care (JBDS – IP), is based around COVID-19. A series of CPD-accredited webinars will give healthcare professionals a unique view of what diabetes care looks like in 2021. The DPC Winter Forum is a series of six free, independently produced webinars with each being led by a panel of experts from the diabetes multi-disciplinary team. For the first time a position statement has been published providing clinicians with guidance on how to help people with Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and diabetes start exercising safely again. A team of international experts, including a Swansea University academic, contributed to the document, entitled ‘Acute glycaemic management before, during and after exercise for cardiac rehabilitation participants with diabetes mellitus‘. Junior doctors are invited to apply for a position within the Joint British Diabetes Societies Inpatient Care (JBDS – IP). This unremunerated post is designed to help “refresh and update the existing guidelines” that have been produced and to help JBDS understand and appreciate the needs of junior doctors.
