Travel well and safely, come back refreshed and enjoy the additional time with your children. This semester is coming to close but school life continues apace. On Tuesday a bus load of our piano students travelled to Alzheimer’s Australia to perform for the residents of Mary Chester House. That afternoon those same musicians took part in a concert for their parents and friends in the OLG music room. Those that I was fortunate enough to hear are obviously making good progress and showing the benefit of daily practice. Today’s whole school mass was a beautiful way to celebrate the term and all the wonderful achievements and experiences our students have been involved in. Congratulations to Ms Trinder and the children of 5B on their handling of some difficult readings! Term Three Monday 16 July is a pupil free day on which the OLG staff will be refreshed on the ‘Story’ of our school, ‘Witness’, so we are made even more aware of our role in modelling the values of Catholicism and ‘Faith’ so that we are all the better equipped to pass it on to our students. The term begins for students on Tuesday 17 July. Term Three is punctuated by: . First Reconciliation · The Performing Arts Festival, a part of which is the Angelico Visual Arts Festival. The Angelico poster features the work of one of our students from last year. · Robocop · Tournament of Minds · The Bishops' Religious Literacy Assessment (BRLA) - 2018 · Grandparents Day · Fathers’ Day · St Mary of the Cross, Mary Mackillop’s Feast Day, and · The Feast of the Assumption (Holy Day of Obligation) Does Helicopter Parenting Make Kids More Anxious? Parents may reduce the likelihood that their children will suffer from anxiety if they challenge them to push their boundaries, an Australian-Dutch study has found. It's as simple as letting your kid occasionally lose a board game, engaging in rough-and-tumble play, and pushing them a little higher on the playground swing. "It helps them learn they can handle situations and things aren't as scary as they initially perhaps predicted," said study co-author, Professor Jennifer Hudson from Macquarie University in Sydney. Australian kids are more anxious than ever before. A 2015 Federal Government report revealed that anxiety disorders are the second most common childhood mental illness next to ADHD. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-11-30/new-study-draws-link-between-parenting-and-anxiety/9200940 Entertainment Books Anyone who occasionally eats out would know the value of owning one of these – the cost is recouped very quickly. Every family received a copy under no obligation to purchase it. If you have decided not to buy the book that was sent home, please try to have it returned before the holidays. After School Parking – Be Warned One of our neighbours has complained about parents parking across the driveway to her property in Wilberforce Street. She was well within her rights when she reported the issue to the City of Stirling Rangers.
