MEAT VENDING MACHINEOur food system is quickly adapting to the current pandemic as consumers change the way they order, buy and shop for food. Luckily, the European Food Safety Authority reported that there is no evidence that food is a likely source of transmission of coronavirus. In Korea, the Meatbox 365 has created a solution by providing customers an automated meat vending machine service. The machine serves a variety of meats from beef, pork and lamb in addition to side dishes. Customers can access the vending machine 24/7 and receive hot meals whenever they please with no human interaction needed. 2. TACO BELL TRIPLELUPATaco Bell’s iconic Chalupa has been popular since its launch in 1999. The restaurant chain has now created the Triplelupa which combines 3 mini Chalupas. It is now the longest taco ever and the first on Taco Bell’s tear-apart menu. The Triplelupa features double the seasoned beef and includes three flavours: Nacho Cheese, Chipotle and Cheesy Chipotle. For the launch, the brand has partnered with TikTok, the trending video-sharing social media app, to debut the Triplelupa launch with a series of short clips. 3. BACON BITS JALAPEÑO POPPERSWienerschnitzel are now offering a variety of Jalapeño Poppers with the addition of Chili Cheese Bacon Ranch and Chilli Cheese flavours. The three Jalapeño Poppers include the brand’s secret chili recipe loaded with melted cheddar cheese and spicy diced jalapenos. The two new loaded flavours can be found at participating restaurants for a limited time. Customers can purchase a pack of 6 or 12 across all U.S. locations. 4. MEATLESS MEATBALL SUCCESSSubway’s Meatless Meatball Marinara sub has become a permanent menu item in the UK and Ireland due to popular demand during its limited time offer in January. The meat-free sub quickly made it into Subway’s top five subs list along with the Chicken Teriyaki, Italian BMT, Spicy Tuna, Spicy Italian and the original Meatball Marinara. Subway has also recently announced the expansion of its UK and Ireland delivery roll-out through partnerships with UberEats and Just Eat. The brand’s delivery is currently available from over 1,650 Subway outlets across both markets. 5. PIZZA HUT X IKEAPizza Hut and IKEA Hong Kong have collaborated to create a special pizza featuring IKEA’s Swedish meatballs to be served on life size white pizza tables that typically come inside the delivery box to stop the cardboard from sticking to the cheese. The two brands kicked off the collaboration with a series of social media posts, including a post with a Pizza Hut delivery man asleep in an IKEA store leading to the ‘boardroom moment’ when the new topping was created. IKEA has reportedly sold 67% more of their SÄVA tables than anticipated in the first few days of the launch. 6. BACON BURGERS ON DEMANDSmashburger have introduced a new Specialty Smash called the Smoked Bacon Brisket Burger. It includes an Angus beef patty, smoked cheddar cheese, smoked brisket, pickles with BBQ sauce all on a toasted brioche bun. Customers can also order the Smoked Bacon Double Brisket Burger with two Angus beef patties. The standard version is priced at $8.99 and the double is being sold for $10.99. In other news, Honest Burgers have announced they are relaunching their Bacon Plant vegan burger. It is back by popular demand after originally being a Veganuary special. The burger includes vegan smoked Gouda, ‘THIS Isn’t Bacon’, shoestring fries, plant-based bacon ketchup and chipotle vegan mayo, spinach and pickles. 7. KFC MEAT-FREE WEEKKFC restaurant in Rotterdam replaced all chicken with meat-free products during the Netherland’s National Week Without Meat initiative. Taking place March 9-15th, KFC used Quorn protein instead of their usual chicken across all burgers, buckets and salads. The brand used this initiative to launch a new meat free burger, the Chickenless Chicken Burger, which is made from a breaded Quorn patty using KFC’s signature 11 herbs and spice recipe. 8. FLAVOUR EXPEDITIONFlavour and the Menu performed their 18th annual flavour expedition sampling 1,186 dishes at 117 restaurants throughout the trendy cities of New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. They gathered valuable research on numerous menu, ingredient and flavour opportunities within the market. Oddly enough, oxtails and anchovies are gaining popularity with chefs cooking up and serving in different ways. Whipped ricotta cheese is seen in a variety of sweet and savoury meals. Miso is another emerging menu addition as chefs include this versatile ingredient in vegetable dishes, sandwiches and even desserts. 9. PIZZA HUT SPAM CHEESY BITES Pizza Hut Philippines has announced the launch of its new Spam Cheesy Bites Pizza. This new limited time offer is a cheese pizza topped with cubes of Spam. Instead of a traditional crust, it's more of a pull-apart pigs in a blanket style that is stuffed with more Spam and mozzarella. The pizzas are available in both regular and large sizes for $8.25 and $12.55 respectively.
