1. ASF in Americas for first time in 40 years

The Dominican Republic said African swine fever (ASF) has now been detected in backyard pigs in 11 of the country's provinces after cases were first detected last week, and it is culling thousands of animals in an effort to halt further spread of the virus.

2. COVID-19 is not a food safety issue - FAO

Updated guidance from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) states that the virus that causes COVID-19 is not a direct food safety concern, updating interim guidance from the FAO and WHO originally published in April 2020.

4. 60 years: Botulism in Ukraine

Researchers assessing foodborne botulism in Ukraine from 1955 to 2018 have concluded that eliminating foodborne botulism will only be possible with an end to home canning and state control of commercial canned products.

5. Study shows foodborne illnesses linked to recall-associated outbreaks

According to scientists from Augusta University, CDC, FDA and USDA, recall-associated foodborne illness outbreaks resulted in more illnesses per outbreak when compared to non-recall-associated outbreaks.
