YOUR NEW NETWORK - WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOU

Dear colleagues,

The University's move toward a new network is now well underway, with installation taking place as we speak. It is important that we set your expectations and make you aware that this is no easy feat - challenges do lie ahead in the form of changes and disruption that will affect all of us in some way.

It is our responsibility to keep you all up-to-date with:

  • When and where specific things are happening
  • How and who they will affect
  • What they mean for you at the time and in the future

Transparency through communication is key to the project's success and we hope you will all engage with the messages and mechanisms we use to keep you 'in the know'.

We need you to:

  • Make sure you are aware of when activity is happening in your building, and the buildings you regularly use
  • Check there are no clashes with important events that you are organising and make sure we are aware of anything taking place on campus.

Find out about real-time updates, events and more in the relevant sections below.

Best wishes,

Mark Stephenson

How we'll communicate with you

Phase 1 explained

We've entered project phase 1. Teams of contractors from Xtreme are working their way around University buildings, putting your new wireless access points and cabling in place. This injection of hardware will offer speedy, blanket wireless coverage across campus sites - expect to see roaming Skype callers on our consistent connection in the not so distant future!

Please note: This equipment will remain inactive until later in the project; your existing network will continue to function as normal until we're ready to do the big switch-on.

Anticipate physical disruption to offices/teaching spaces during equipment installation.

Your real-time updates

Location: IT Transformation Blog > Network Refresh

We've added an online, regularly reviewed, public schedule to help you understand what's happening with project progress at all times. FAQs will be added in response to any feedback we're given and we'll continue to send you messages through existing channels (i.e. School Managers and Heads of Professional Services, staff newsletters, UoD IT social media etc), just to be sure.

Come to one of our Q&A events to learn more

We're running a series of sessions to give everybody the opportunity to ask questions about the project. Book your place at one of the free events below to gain a deeper insight into what is to come. Sessions will be arranged at a later date for Ninewells and Kirkcaldy campuses.

Date/Time: Thur 24 Mar 10:00-11:00   |   Location: Baxter 1.36, Tower Building - Book a place

Date/Time: Tues 29 Mar 15:00-16:00   |   Location: 3G02 (LT1), Dalhousie Building - Book a place

We'd like to hear from you

We welcome any comments/queries you have and ask that these be sent to UoD IT via the feedback form.

We have consulted the 'e-learning online examinations' calendar managed by LLC and will work around booked learning and teaching activities recorded in the 'Central Timetabling and Room Bookings' system. If you have knowledge of any other critical events that may conflict with planned works, please do not hesitate to make contact.
