LATEST NEWS Trio Buzzing After First Rescue For Liam Good, George Wyllie & Marley Igasan Oceans 20 was more than just a fantastic four days of competition – it’s where they carried out their first rescue. The trio of 12-year-olds from Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service rescued three children caught in a rip. We’re super proud of these young men. 3Rs Rip Survival Plan With rips being our biggest hazard on Aotearoa's (NZ) beaches, knowing what to do if caught in Selfless Act Pulling out of a race to help a fellow competitor who got injured during a board race was the “epitome of awesomeness”. Jack Long’s selfless act was recognised at Oceans 20 & the 11-year-old from Wainui Surf Life Saving Club won a fantastic prize from Engine Swimwear. Such great sportsmanship! LIFESAVING NEWS BP Rescue of the Month - Taranaki Seasonally The Surf Lifeguards involved in pulling two people from the water at Oakura Beach, Taranaki on January 13, 2020 have won first place for BP Rescue of the Month for January. Seven off-duty seasonally employed Surf Lifeguards responded to the incident that resulted in one person being rescued & another sadly losing their life. BP Rescue of the Month - Kariaotahi SLSC - 2nd Volunteer Surf Lifeguards who rescued seven people in the space of five minutes have been commended for their actions. Kariaotahi SLSC BP Rescue of the Month - Whangarei Heads The recovery of a diver’s body at Awahoa Bay on Whangārei’s East Coast has earnt Whangārei Heads VSLSP third place for BP Rescue of the Month for January. The Surf Lifeguards involved ensured that there was closure for his family by returning their loved one back to them. IRB Crewperson Module Visit the SLSNZ Online Learning Portal to self-enrol & complete the pre-learning IRB Crewperson Module. There are interactive activities, videos & quizzes. You'll need your user name & password (same as for your refresher) to log in. For password or login issues, email ORGANISATION NEWS Encouraging Women in The Women in Life Saving Project Group wants to gain a better understanding of the situation for women in the Surf Life Saving movement. The group will address any fundamental systemic issues or barriers to participation & encourage increased engagement. $4,200 Donated to SLSNZ Thanks to First Security Sincere thanks to the team at First Security - a leading security company in NZ with local & central government, banks & schools - who over the Christmas period asked their customers to vote for their chosen charity for First Security to make a donation to. This resulted in a cheque for $4200 being donated & presented to SLSNZ. As a charity, we appreciate every dollar donated! KFC has raised $147,852 in donations for SLSNZ LIFESAVING SPORT NEWS TSB Nationals Surf Life Saving Championships 2020 The iconic TSB Nationals Surf Life Saving Championships 2020 were held at Midway Beach, Gisborne from March 12 - 15. The overall winners were Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service. A big thank you to all of our event staff & volunteers - we wouldn't be able to do this without you! Mount Maunganui turned on the weather and waves for the 20th Oceans event held from February 27 to March 1 . There were 830 participants from 47 clubs, including Kawana Waters from Australia, across the four days. A special shout-out to everyone who volunteered & helped to make this epic event a success. Congratulations to Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service for taking home the Oceans 20 trophy! BP IRB South Island Championships Being held at Waikouaiti Beach on March 21, the BP IRB South Island Championships is filled with hard, fast, & action-packed racing. BP IRB New Zealand Championships The largest Inflatable Rescue Boat racing competition on the Surf Life Saving calendar will be held at Ruakaka Beach on April 4 and 5.
